Re: 18th Street HGS - Gentrification

Why doesn't this gang hit up much? As youngspade also noted, you never see their graffiti around this area. Is the HGS click just trying to stay lowkey and not draw attention? Cops always seem to patrol this area around Hollywood Blvd HEAVY, both with cops on foot, bikes, and squad cars. I made this...

Re: GANG BOOK 1982

Yes there were the AV Brims, and they were real cool with the Flats. Even as late as 1995 I would got to Cuatro to chill with the homies on 4th and some of the OG AV Brims would be down there with the Cuatros. They werent bangers anymore just neighborhood gente but they had Cuatros back. Brims caug...

Re: 18th Street HGS - Gentrification

Rocket & Alex, either of you guys know (roughly) the boundaries for this hood? I know I'm off but this is what I was thinking: West - Las Palmas South - Hollywood Blvd. Northwest - Franklin or just north of Franklin into some of the apartments at the bottom of the hill (south of those mini-mansions ...

Re: Defunct White Gangs (non-Aryan)

Also I'm wondering why Santa Monica Surfers died out, since Santa Monica has still remained largely white. Last I checked, Santa Monica today is about 80% white.

Re: Defunct White Gangs (non-Aryan)

They died out in the 90's. The history of white gangs in L.A. is basically: 40's-60's: street club era: Jesters, Bedouins, Uhlans, Khans, Barons, Spook Hunters etc. 70's: surfers, white cholos, stoners: Santa Monica Surfers, Venice Hoodlums, Bell Gardens White Boys, Hollywood Stoners 13 etc. 80's-9...

Why do Asian gangs mainly target other Asians

Whether Asian gangs target other gangsters or innocent civilians, it's usually always other Asians... I remember a lot of Asian gangs were doing home-invasion robberies in the San Gabriel Valley and in Northern Cali, mainly targeting the homes of other Asians. I remember reading about an incident in...

Re: CHAKA memories

^Some well known writers that got jail time, maybe not prison but county, are Gkae and Trixter. Not sure how long both of them were locked up for. Both those guys were getting up pretty good back then. Trixter still does his thing. I didn't know Trixter got locked up. I used to see his pieces, burn...

Re: 1992 (why was this year the most violent year)?

Yeah i knew it was around 95-7 being the worst years i thought. How many murders in 1980 were documented, reason why i say documented cgbecause back in 1980 when gangs were at there highest peak thanks through the introduction of the dope game more seriously on a multi million dollar hgang leaders ...

Re: CHAKA memories

In 1990 it would have taken at least three years to make a name for yourself, and Chaka never invested that much time in NYC like he did in LA, so most people never took notice. I think I have footage of him when he went to court in downtown LA for vandalism, and when he left the court room, he tag...

Re: CHAKA memories

I remember seeing Chaka up in 1989. He may have started before then but in 89 he was all city. Interesting. Yeah I get the feeling it got to a point where regular people who don't really notice graff were talking about seeing "CHAKA" all over the place. I remember seeing a photo of a Chaka throwup ...

Re: GANG BOOK 1982

Interesting... I was looking at that book and noticed the Brims supposedly had a set in "Aliso Village." Aliso Village Projects got torn down and don't exist anymore, but that's near Boyle Heights & East L.A.... were there really blacks living in that area in the early 80's? I figured that area has ...

Re: Funk Master Flex Disses Tupac

When it comes to Tupac, I have to agree with Funk Flex. And I'm Tupac fan, an L.A. dude, I have a great deal of his music on my iPhone. Back then during that beef, I took Tupac's side I've probably watched countless interviews of Tupac & Biggie. interviews from their peers, read countless articles, ...

CHAKA memories

Anyone here got any CHAKA memories to share? Just about what you saw, when you started noticing him, what you heard your friends say about him, etc. My memories are vague, as I was about 6 or 7 when he was getting up but he was the only writer that I remember at that age. One reason is that his tag ...

18th Street HGS - Gentrification

Just wondering if gentrification has effected the 18th Street HGS clique in Hollywood... They're really building up this area with luxury condos, hotels, restaurants, high-end clubs, etc. I don't even know how 18th Street exists in this area. I first heard about this particular set 6 years ago when ...

1992 (why was this year the most violent year)?

1992 always stood out to me. It was the most violent year in L.A. history. It was the year of the Riots. It was in the era when "gangsta" movies like 'Boyz N The Hood', 'South Central', and 'Menace II Society' were blockbusters. West Coast gangsta rap was at its peak popularity & sales. 1992 saw 2,5...

Re: WHat does Inactive accually mean?

I think the biggest enemy to a gang is gentrification. Constant cop raids, injunctions, and gang wars often do not break a gang. But what will is rising property costs, new refurbished "lofts", women taking yoga classes, and the new Starbucks & Whole Foods opening down the street. When I saw the new...

Re: Mid City Stoners (MCS) near Western

If you take a look at that area North of the Freeway, that Rampart/ Mid City/ Pico Union Areas, the gang scene is pretty dead. The Feds smashed the area with Rico Act, local gang injunctions, and decades of battle fatigue. A lot of areas just ran their course, ran out of steam from years of back an...

Defunct White Gangs (non-Aryan)

Hello, I'm interested in the history of white gangs in LA. From what I understand, they died out in the early 80s. I realize the white gangs that exist today are almost exclusively Aryan/racist gangs, and most exist in the outskirts/suburbs of LA, not in the city itself. I'm interested in the white ...
