There was an East Side black gangs in the 50's/early 60's called the Black Swans. I've seen MSB/FSB hit up Black Swans before. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Swans. The Swans name was another old name that made a comeback like Outlaws and Bishops. Original Swans gang from the 50/60's was Black Swans. MSB's still hit that up on occasion.

I made a few critical statements about NY gangs (mostly about NY gangs not having much durability - ie. a fresh new batch of gangs every 5 years or so and the silly trendy gang names - Goonies, WaveGang etc.) and they banned my ass! Bunch of tempermental b*****s!

The NYPD seems to make a big distinction between major and minor gangs. The NYC gang maps are either like the one you posted, just showing big citywide gangs and their locations or they show every little block crew and omit the big gangs like Bloods, LK's. NY is a wierd city for gangs.

I know of at leat one case in Los Angeles where a completely defunct gang was brought back - Varrio Vista 13. Are there any other examples?

I have KAOS 13 on the 80's-90's list. Yeah they rocked the Sui style more or less but they were down with LADS and FFF.

here's a German made doc. on NY gangs that was made around the same time as 40 Blocks. It's actually a much better film. The naration is in German but the diologue is in English and it's not difficul to follow. Just ignore the German.
