Are most Asian gang members martial artists?

Unread post by Zeeboe » February 15th, 2008, 6:20 pm

I hate to stereotype Asian people, I'm just curious. Also, is learning martial arts a requirement for Asian gang members?

Durrrrrrr of course. To be in an asian gangsta you have to be atleast in the second level of your martial arts. Also when you reach the black belt is when you can label yourself as a dai lo aka big brother or OG. Whenever we run into enemies on the streets we bow before we can take flight. If not....if our dai lo hears about it we get checked. Martial arts is a serious issue on the asian gangsta streets. If you ever run into an asian gangsta I advise you to not look into his eyes in disrespect, or else if he finds out you are not a gang member he has the right to grab and twist your testicles and even pull them out if he was a black belt soldier. Have you ever ran into asian gangstas?

I doubt it, but I think Asian gangs benefit from that stereotype.

Most Asian gang members in So Cal are SE Asians - Cambodians, Laos, Vietnamese - I don't think they're big on martial arts.

Speaking of martial arts and gangs. Check out these gangs in East Timor:

The East Timorese people aren't Asians, theyr'e Pacific Islanders but they're really big on martial arts there. Most of the main gangs there are martial arts oriented like KORKA, 7-7, Kung Fu Master, Sacred Heart.

There's more parts to this on youtube. It's pretty interesting.

To be in the Chinese mafia, you have to know how to duplicate porn DVD's and how to ship illegal fish overseas...

NikeCortez, hahaha, your post cracked me up... Damn, you're in Idaho? No more Chinatown for you?

Silencioso, I don't disagree with you at all... that Asians benefit from the martial arts stereotype... but I feel like that was more back in the days, when Asians were still kind of a new and mysterious thing in America. Asians have been here long enough now that most people don't seem to be so fooled anymore...

I'm starting to think that there are no Asian martial artists because I've never known of one, or met one. Most martial artists are white guys. Perhaps Asains just started a really good rumor that they are martial arts experts so people would fear them, but in the real world...it's the white guys who are the martial arts masters...ten points for the white people.

Some gangs like the Chinese FreeMasons (i wouldn't really call them a gang they're really tongs) they're are forced to come to practice because its also a lion dance association (Not all Chinese Freemasons but most) .. and learn martial arts..

Since childhood, I have been interested and intrigued by Chinese culture, and it seems to me that most Asians, Chinese and others that are Asian American don't seem to be very proud of their culture, and consider it to be an insult if they are asked if they know martial arts, or speak their native language, and even seemed embarrassed by Asians who speak with an accent. Even the media makes fun of Asians who are like that.

I'd like to ask, why not be proud of who you are? Instead of trying to be white or black, why not consider it an honor to be Asian? If anything, being stereotyped as a martial artist is a good thing. It means you're strong.

I think Asians who act, talk and dress like they're black should be embarrassed, not the ones who are actually proud of their culture and fit the so called Asian stereotype.

By the way, I meant Asians living here in the U.S. don't seem proud of their culture, not the ones living in Asia. Although I'm sure those kinds of Asians exist over there too.

It is true. Every asian gangster, regardless of race, must go through a secret ritual developed many tens of thousands of years ago. Bruce Lee currently presides over the ritual in his secret celestial underground dojo which he built after faking his death in 1973. Elvis is there to entertain them as well but he's getting along in years now at age 73 (he faked his death too). After the secret ritual, they receive a diploma assuring everyone that they are now legit asian gangsters along with a new tailored leather jacket to wear. Am I missing anything?

Not true, on this thing on most Asian gangsters know martial arts. I seen some youngsters who fought in the street, they had no knowledge of it. But, who i am talking about is today gangsters. A majority of the don't know any, but in the old days, not all but some gangsters at least knew something about martial arts. Escipally Tongs and people from the triads.

Asian gang is different than US street gang.

Gang in Asian, we fight with fist and weapon. Only bank robber, hitman and shots caller carry guns. Therefore, martial art is a + in our country....

The weapon we prefer use a lot is fruit knife or beef knife.
Usually there will be 20 - 30+ ppl each side and wearing either white glove or black glove.

We do not drive around and to shoot ppl.

This is definitely true gangs in Asian countries almost always fight with their fists or knives or some other hand to hand weapon. My step mom is from the philippines and she was tellin me about how theres not too many shooting between gangs mostly fights and knife fights. In my opinion thats tough!! that takes a lot more skill and courage to knife fight somoene than too pull a driveby shooting
