Gangs that go by "FLATS"

Is it true that Flats stands for "First Locos At The Scene"? And is there a specific reason why some gangs chose to call themselves flats?

When you cross the L. A. river from downtown going into East L. A. It's a low or "flat" area then the geography goes up from like Pecan St. (bottom) to Boyle Ave. (top) Gente who live down in CF, PF or TMC (the projects) and surrounding streets when they say they are going east it's "up the hill" or "at the top of the hill".....Also that's how the term Boyle "Heights" originated...in old times, Boyle Heights began at the top of the hill from Boyle Ave. to Indiana St.

Long time ago before the projects..lotta Russian (y otros..) gente lived down there..and they called the area the "Flats" to differentiate from Boyle Heights...name stuck.

Of course now it's all Boyle Heights...to Indiana St.

i think the First Locos At The Scene is something they made up after.

i used to think that Flats meant like projects or something...in San Bernardino theirs the south side Verdugo Flats13 but i noticed that when people talk about going to that nieghborhood they say "im going to the flats" or "i live in the flats."

i know of some P-Flats that r cool with the T-Flats and they kick it with each other and then i go into different websites i see CXFlats giving shout outs to the other Flats gangs even the Verdugo Flats in SB...even though the VF i think dont even like LA.

I always thought that the CVTF AND Torrance T x Flats got along.
As for PF and CF, A few weeks ago I was going South on the 5 fwy through the East Los Area and I saw some sh.. on one of the freeway walls. It was right before the Triggs exit, it said PF CF ,then PRIMERA CUATRO FLATS, their was more but i didn't get to read it all, my girl didn't want to slow down. I guess some of the fools are coo with each other right now.

YES COMPTON AND TORRANCE FLATS GET ALONG. THIS RELATIONSHIP HAS SLOWLY DRAWN EAST SIDE TORRANCE INTO THE MIX. BEFORE WE NEVER RAN INTO CVTF EXCEPT IN THE PINTA, BUT WITHOUT GETTING INTO TO MUCH DETAIL, COMPTON FLATS HAVE STATED AND DID HAVE SOME PEDO WITH E`S`T. THEIR VARRIO IS FAR FROM US SO THE HOMIES DONT REALLY PAY NO MIND TO THEM AND VICE VERSA. BUT IF THE 2 VARRIOS RAN INTO EACH OTHER, IT'S ON

yeah the Valinda Flats do beef with Bassett Grande and with Puente 13. pretty much every gang around them.

I don't think so, Torrance never uses the name "Tortilla", they always only use the "T", and according to my Homie Angel from T Flats is to indicate and shorten the name "T"orrance Flats.

Ive seen pictures of Tortilla Flats(TXF) writting in Torrance. I know they call themselves Torrance Flats and CVTF calls themselves Comptone Flats. As a matter of fact Ive also seen Tortilla X Flats Dukes hit up in that book Wallbangin'. I pretty sure you know the area more than me, Im just telling you what Ive heard and seen. We need S~Doobie tell help figure this one out.

I know that in the last decade or so, both CVTF & TF have been growing closer and closer together, one thing I would point out and that is that in the wars between Torrance Flats and their Harbor Area neighbors never have I seen CVTF get involved in backing them up, having said this, I'll remind you that - that was back in my old dog days 70's & 80's, I don't know about now. I still will argue that they are 2 separate & distinct gangs.

i know im not from the area but i also always thought it was TTF- Torrance Tortilla Flats.

TTF = Te Town Flats in West Side Longo, another old Barrio.
