What gangs neighborhoods have you lived in?

Unread post by alexalonso » January 22nd, 2013, 12:58 pm

I have lived in gang neighborhoods most of my life, but I'll throw 2 out there for now.
- Harpys Deadend (I had an apartment on Hoover & 23rd Street for many years, used to chop it up with them at the Arco station on a regular)
- Rollin 40s Crips (had an apartment in Leimert Park for 2 years from 1996 - 1997.

@ BlueMoon you didnt mention one varrio. If you lived in that many neightborhoods, there is some overlap with the ese's in some of those turfs.

What up Aztec ^^

Ay homie… the Roller Coaster aka Whiteside avenue was never Geraghty Loma hood

GL hood starts across the 10 fwy… on City Terrace ave

if anything – THE LOTT STONERS Gang had a stronger presence there in the 1980’s and even (shiiit… I can’t spill the beans) anyways

Cus my homeboy T***** lived there all his life and his parents owned that pad & that was a sick LOTT Block in the 80’s and a few other era’s too

We used to be @ the Roller Coaster 40+ homies deep whenever J.C. Chavez had fights

But even then … the Roller Coaster aka Whiteside avenue technically falls under “La Hood ~ Big Hazard” by default

unless you know something I dont... did GL post up deep on that block ...

cus us & BH are cool ... they never sweeted us... drank a few pistos w them if anything

but GL vs BH is an old ass EAst Los rivalry ..cant see Hazard allowing that

Sup martinez, when I stayed on Whiteside didnt see much writing and I was constantly getting jammed up by GL so thats how I came up with that. It was in like 94'95. Remeber Dukes liquor and the Pornstars taking flicks the local monaccos for 5 bucks...lol

si'mon ^ i am very familiar with Dukes liquour store

its one of my favorite last minute get beer stops  but Dukes is on City Terrace ave

and yeah ...thats Geraghty Loma hood...

but you cross the bridge over the 10 FWY you’ve officially entered La Hood, which is a clika and extension off Hazard Grande

so it depends what side of the bridge you got jammed up on?

..

Who do you know from GxLoma?

A few, but knowing Grizzly from GL is what kept me out of harms way. Yeah that is La Hood, but I never seen them around just a old faded tag. Man I couldnt believe they would have half naked porn stars standing on the street late on a saturday night to flick it up with fools. Fools were all hands in the pics too. GL used to go patrolling alot when they had those events at Dukes.

Si’mon I know Grizzly … he used to live on Woolwine. Maybe he still does or at his jefita

Woolwine was GL headquarters for a minute too

when THE LOTT 13 & Geraghty Loma were tight (pre 1993) … Grizzly was my lil homie

you gotta understand I was all in the mix when his clique – east side Rockwood- 1st started forming

He is like 2nd generation es Rockwood- GL ... they fell under and rolled w THE LOTT 13 their first years the came out

I was real tight with the 1st generation es RW. Some of them to this day –

even though TLS-13 vs. GL are official enemigos since 1993 …

our bonds were formed way before the pedo kicked off....

es RW & THE LOTT 13 were banging together & going to the same schools together ...I even had crimees from GL RW

I know most the originals way before they started banging

I Used to kick it with Cricket too, he had a baby with my homegirl so he was around the homies at times. He's quiet so he never caught a beating from the homies..lol. Yeah I was busted with Grizzly so when we would see eachother on the street it was all good. It was his first time in the county so me and him as eastsiderz bonded quick. Were talking bout big Huerito fool right?

cus THE LOTT 13 gang smoked big Cricket (common street knowledge)

I know lil cricket tambien … last time I saw him he was w a fine lil hyna … half her nalgas were showing out of her tiny ass shorts… at the block buster in H.P.

This was maybe late 90’s … lil Crick’s was a “carita” vato, so he always bitches on deck

but his older brother Snoops was my boy!!

and si’mon …there’s only one Grizzly from GL. That’s him.

XXX- I feel you playa! The jungles are like you said down the mountain, but I thought they still considered it their turf. I forgot about Venice 13, when I lived in the Venice area. Like you correctly stated, most of them probably aren't considered gang neighborhoods.

I wouldn't.... No BPS reside in that area, what is that, behind crenshaw mall on the Liquor Bank side?

Stocker starts on la Cienga in ladera heights, separates Baldwin Hills from View Park and ends in Leirmert Park..

It don't touch no gang areas....outkirts of BPS and 40aves.

Jungles doesn't go that far South..

The Jungles stops on whatever that next street is where the swapmeet used to be, and that's pushing it....

No I'm not from Hoover but I was born on 81st between Hoover and vermont. One of my older brothers is from 83 Hoover and my cousin from 83 Gangsta. I know alot of people in Los Angeles county and anybody who has really been in the streets wouldn't be surprised by how many turfs I've lived in. I'm 34 and I've been around period. As far as the varrio's I never lived in an area controlled by surenos. The cv117's don't really run nothing around Carver Park. The cv124 only got one street in Mona Park and they hate Largo's too. 68 East Coast don't get along with Florencia. The Raymonds and South Los were tight and got high at Helen Keller Park but that is still considered Raymond turf. The carnales and the 18st weren't a factor back when I lived around the 74's and 83's. Froot Town and Tree Top don't get along with the T Flats when I lived on Rosecrans and cv Locos is on the other side. The cv 132 and cv3 ain't that strong in Original Front Hood. South Los ain't strong in 112 Broadway. The 107 Hoovers beef with South Los when I stayed on 105th. It's was some Florencia's by the 60's but I didn't stay where they hang at and they not that heavy on the west side like they are on the east side. I didn't see any varrio's around 8th ave when I stayed in the Inglewood Families. There is a cv126 but I lived on the Six Hood side. The Playboys 13 and the Avalons were cool but I stayed on 49th with my cousins who are from 53 Avalon. There weren't any varrio's in 93 Playboy Hustla or 92/94 Hoover when I stayed on 93rd and vermont. The B 13's are heavy in Athens Park now but back in the day weren't at all. I didn't see any varrio's around 109th when I stayed in 111 Neighbor Hood. Hoods and Varrios are overlapped but if you don't stay on the street they control then its not they turf.

I lived in 2 areas in L.A. during my childhood & teenage years (80s & 90s): Mid City, and then on 54th street & Deane Ave right on the border of View Park and L.A. (South Central). Then we moved back to Mid City.

Grew up in Mid City. First lived off Venice & Crenshaw, in Lafayette Square. There were no gangs in this immediate neighborhood. This was an enclosed upper-middle class neighborhood. But you didn't have to go far to run in to Rollin 20s hood just to the east. A little to the west was School Yard Crip. To the north was Mid City Stoners 13. 18th Street was to the west. West Boulevard Crip was to the south. I'm sure there were other gangs, I just can't remember them all. I think Crazy Riders 13 were just to the northeast.

During this time as a child I also moved back & forth to Hawaii. Definitely no gangs in that area.

Then we moved to 54th & Deane in the late 80s to early 90s. This was a few blocks west of Crenshaw. Technically lived in View Park, which isn't part of the city of L.A. (County Sheriffs patrol this area). This area ranges from wealthy black families in the hills to middle class black families in the "flats". I lived in the middle class area in the flats. The border of South Central L.A. was literally two doors down. You could tell because the street maintenance crews from the city stopped paving fresh asphalt right at the county line. And vice versa. But this area had no gangs that I could tell. But you didn't have to go far to run into the NBC clicks & Rollin 40s to the north in Leimert Park, and then there were the 60s just to the South.

I've heard of Rollin 50s Brims but I don't remember them in this area -- I think they were further to the east -- east of Crenshaw.

Funny thing is, while living in this area, my dad used to take me to violent rated R movies as a kid, and I realize it was only because he was too cheap to hire a baby sitter. So he took me to see 'Boyz N The Hood' at the Baldwin Theatre (remember the theater on La Brea near the Jungles). This theater was the main "Black" theater in the Crenshaw District before the "Magic Johnson Theater" era. It was crazy because I remember the theater being packed with gangbangers to see this movie. Looking back, it was surreal in the sense that we went to see a movie, now considered a classic, dealing with gang culture in South Central, in the heart of the area where the setting of the film took place, filled with gangbangers from South Central. This movie was shown nationwide and later in other countries, but only in South Central could you experience that authenticity while watching it.

Then we moved back to Mid City in early 1992, just before the Riots. This time we lived off Venice & La Brea. I lived in St. Elmo Village, just east of La Brea. This hood was School Yard Crips & 18th Street. Just to the west, west of La Brea, were the Mansfield Crips and Drifters 13. Just north of the Midtown Shopping Center/World On Wheels was Mid City Stoners 13.

I remember when the riots popped off. Midtown Shopping Center got burned down. Well, maybe about 70% of it. World On Wheels remained, as did the bowling alley, as did the Pico Swapmall and Broadway Federal Bank. Pico Swapmall got converted into an OSH. Everything else that got burned down got rebuilt. I'd say it was completed by 93 or 94 at the latest -- relatively quickly. Then mini-malls and shops around Pico & La Brea got burned down. The Lucy's on Pico & La Brea was the only building on that corner that remained.

Then I lived outside of L.A. in another state and in Japan for 4 years during the early 2000s, before returning in the mid 2000s. I now live near The Grove shopping center area now -- there are no gangs in this area. There's yuppies & hipsters, art galleries, and white women walking to yoga & pilates classes, etc. I heard the closest gang to this area was a Carnales set just north of Pico & Fairfax, but I heard that set is defunct and died out in the 90s. I think they were from those apartments just south of Little Ethiopia along Fairfax.

Deane & 54th Street is RSC Hood, more of a Suburb for the Hood..members live allthrew there...The Members that lived in this area would Cross Slauson to hang out or cross West Blvd to hang with the Chesely Boys...

This street was also home to a Trendy Click/gang called Sex Jerx...They claimed Deane Ave as a Click....They are defunct now.

What side of 54 did you live, the more North you go , less members live..

That makes sense... Bangers living in this area. Again, I never viewed this area as a "hood" -- it was too quiet and clean. But I did get the feeling that maybe some of the teenagers living with their parents/guardians in this area may have banged, but they just lived in the area and kept quiet about it for the most part. This was the early 90s, and the "jheri curl + snapback" look among bangers hadn't died out yet, and I remember seeing a couple of them in the area.

So yeah at the most I thought of it as an area where bangers may have lived because knew it wasn't far from the hood to the south and east.

About the "Sex Jerx"... Now that I think about it, I do remember seeing graffiti in white lettering in the middle of the street on Deane Ave., just south of 54th, and the tags had something to do with "sex" or something nasty. I remember one of the guys who lived down the street getting ready to buff it and he was reading the graffiti out loud to my dad. Do you know if the Sex Jerx did any graffiti at all?

I lived right on 54th Street, just on the south side of the street. I lived on the southeast corner of 54th & Deane, right across from that Church/Sunday School.

Never heard of the Chesely Boys... Who were they?

Are you familiar with this area? Did you ever live there?
