Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
1. Either the map maker gave too much area to White Fence, 2. they were small and he missed it, 3. they were in the beginning stages of their varrio, 4. or they didnt exist.bgcasper wrote:thanks a lot alonso were is evergreen ?

I'll look at the map again and make sure it is GG.
Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
Im still soaking this map in ...
but a few quick corrections
* that RSL stands for Ricardo Street Locos - not Rockwood - which got absorbed in Big Hazard. They are a clique off BH till this day
* its actually just Tercera aka v. 3rd Street ... they are not Flats
* GG thats a typo by the maker of this, that should be EG as in Evergreen
* I dont think White Fence has ever bordered Juarez Maravilla

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
I am not sure if the "GG" is a Typo from the original map maker, or if I just traced the letters wrong. It is possible the map maker put "EG" and I wrote "GG" over it, thinking it was a G but yeah, that's defintely Evergreen, Evergreen park is in the same spot.
Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
yes, thats what that little RSL stands for in between Hazard Grande and La Hood (which also got absorbed into BH)alexalonso wrote:One block east of Soto Street.
RSL = Ricardo Street Locos and La Hood have been cliques off BH for as long as I can remember
I would bet money, Lote MV was never ever bigger than Lopez Maravilla
Lote MV (LMR) was always a 2 block gang... thats why they're on last leg status... LMV all thru there

Did Ricardo Street Locos and La Hood ever have their own Varrio in the 1970s? Never even heard of LA Hood, and thought that the copper who made this map in 1978, was mislead on that one.

Who is Poorside now? VNE has two turfs?
Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
Did Ricardo Street Locos and La Hood ever have their own Varrio in the 1970s?
Yes
One of my closest homeboy’s parents are/were both from La Hood
but as long as I can remember, they were always associated with Big Hazard …always.
I wish I could read the street names that would help
Alonso – email me a copy of this so I can at least read the street names
Who is Poorside now?
Keeping it 100
I never heard of a varrio Poorside… ever
all that area right there is nice … it’s mostly middle class Asians in Monterey Park. Quite suburban community
but shit… maybe 35 years ago, it was different
VNE has two turfs?
Si’mon
The original VNE is out of Estrada Courts projects
The other hood, sometimes called the Montebello side is known as the VNE ~ Tik Toks
Stoners 13 Locos (S13L’s) carved out a huge chuck of that that VNE 2nd hood
.

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
more observations ~
What I don’t see on here and I know for a they were around and active in the 1970’s were
Vicky’s Town
Maravilla Rifa (MV’R)
Fickett Street
Clika Los Primos
Moeriya Maravilla
Soto Street
Winter Gardens
v. Boyle Heights
ELA 13 Dukes ~ Aliso Village
maybe it was mapped out by how much police activity was in that particular barrio when the map was made,
I’m not sure… but those varrios I mentioned are pre 1978
.
also - the East Los ~ Stoner generation was in its beggining stages and would not be on the cops radar yet
I’m sure they were looked at as just kids being Marijuano’s and blasting out Rock n Roll

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
I thought Clicka Los primos (clps) came out in the 1980s
Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
i've always assumed they were in a 1970's gang because they were around when I was a lil kid
long before i started fucking around...
if they are a 1980's gang ... it would be the very early 1980's

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
I just recently found this out from one of my camaradas:Coup wrote:Who is Poorside now?
Poor~Side is the little are off of Garvey / Monterey Pass Road on the border of Monterey Park & Alhambra
That area used to be EAST LOS ~ L.A county before ..
there are still a few old Poor~Side hit ups around there in concrete
That 1978 map has Poor~Side as big ass varrio lol
In reality it was a very small area /varrio

chale alex., white fence never did go all the way up to brooklyn, far as i remember it
THIRD ST was from Brooklyn to 4th (maybe even 6th), and from Boyle Ave to Fickett, right abouts
they used to hold down Soto & Brooklyn at the All Nations Hall (Street), and also at Hollenbeck Park
^ ^ that was their Sacred Reich
they started out in the later 60's, and lived all thru out the 70's
their reign of power went from 1round 1974 to 1979
they had the original Terceros, Santos, Midgets and Peewee cliques
THIRD ST had it going on with both PxF and WxF
3RD was small but not so small, and most others around would of labelled them as Border Brothers
but they held their hold for a while
most THIRD ST vets where all gone by the late 80s and early 90s
definitely died out by the 90s, and their old zone was taken over by BREED ST & VTB
but yes, THIRD ST was there on the map in the 1970s

Also, that map is off when it shows ELS & ES18ST in yellow., that's ROSE HILLS, HIGHLANDS & ESR Gambier neighborhoods.alexalonso wrote:this map should be clearer
ES18ST is located east and south of Huntington Drive., and north of H Drive is "ROSE HILLS" ~> Topaz, Galena, Amethyst, Mercury, Browne and the Projects.
Northeast of ES18ST is "HIGHLANDS" between Bowman and Huntington Drive, and then factual ESR to the east
LOCKE ST neighborhood north of Huntington Drive.
don't know what ELS <~ is in reference to on the map, but if its EASTLAKE, then it is way off, because EL13 is down in the Heights (Lincols Heights)., sandwiched in-between THOMAS ST & ES"CLOVER
EASTLAKE 13 = (N) Broadway, (S) Alhambra, (E) Thomas, (W) Griffin

Looking at the CYPRESS PARK map, i can tell you for a fact that CP varrio does not extend north past Isabel., that's all hills up there and then mount washington which you have to go all the way around to get up to., and going northwest along Cypress Av, CP only goes as far as Loosmore, you're stretching it to Granada, maybe, but that's it., it is Cypress Avenues after that.

Looking at that EL Sereno map, it shows it all as ESR, which is fine, to an extent., nowadays you have LOCKE, LOWELL, ITHACA, GUARDIA, all on diff corners of that ESR map., but in the 70s, you did have CYRIL & BALLARD, as well as the TINY LOCOS @ WILSON HI
EL SERENO
“CITY OF THE MIST”
EARLY ON IN L.A. HISTORY, EL SERENO WAS CALLED “FARMINGTON”
IN THE EARLY 1900s THE TOWN BEGAN TO GROW NEXT TO THE TRACKS
RUNNING ALONGSIDE THE OLD PACIFIC ELECTRIC RAILWAY
THEN IT CONTINUED TO BUILD UP ALL ALONG “THE DRIVE” (HUNTINGTON DRIVE)
FROM THE 20s AND 30s ON UP, THE COMMUNITY BECAME ETHNICALLY MIXED
WOPS, NIPS, HUEROS AND RAZA ALL MADE FARMINGTON THEIR HOME
FARMINGTON’s NAME WAS OFFICIALLY CHANGED IN THE MID-40s
IT WAS RENAMED “EL SERENO” THE QUIET PEACEFUL SERENE PLACE
“CHANGED TO” ACCORDING TO ANGLO SOCIETY IN THEIR BOOKS..
BECAUSE THE NAME FOR THE COMMUNITY SOUTH OF THE DRIVE..
WAS ALREADY KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN EL SERENO BY THE OLD RAZA..
RAZA WHO HAD ALREADY RAISED A CHURCH FOR THE BARRIO THERE SINCE BACK IN THE MID-20s
BUT EVEN SO, THOUGH THE NAME CHANGED FROM FARMINGTON TO EL SERENO
THE PLACE WAS AFFECTIONALLY REFERRED TO AS “LITTLE TOWN”
AND ALL THROUGH THE 40s and 50s THAT’S WHAT IT WAS STILL CALLED “LITTLE TOWN”
BY THE 1950s THEE “EL SERENO VARRIO” GOT ESTABLISHED
SOUTH OF THE DRIVE
MOSTLY CONCENTRATED RUNNING EAST FROM EASTERN AVENUE
IN THE STREETS LIKE..
NAVARRO
TEMPLETON
GAMBIER
BALLARD
And LOMBARDY
THE VARRIO EL SERENO GREW UP IN THE FIFTY’s
EXPERIENCING THEIR FIRST DRIVE-BY IN 1958
EL SERENO RAZA GREW UP PARTYING IN PLACES LIKE THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL
WHERE ART LABOE PUT THINGS TOGETHER
AND BANDS LIKE THE MIDNIGHTERS AND LOCAL BANDS..
LIKE EL SERENO’s OWN “THEE SKYLIGHTERS” WOULD PLAY THEE SOUNDS OF THE VARRIO
BY THE 1960s EL SERENO HAD BECOME MAINLY RAZA POPULATED
AND BY THE 1970s EL SERENO RIFA WAS A WELL ESTABLISHED AND RESPECTED VARRIO..
KNOWN AND HEARD ABOUT FAR AND WIDE
IN THE 70s, EL SERENO HAD THE “MIDNIGHT CRUISERS” LOWRIDING CLUB
THEY HAD THE “BALLARD STREET” CLIQUE DOING CRAZY THINGS
THEN CAME OTHERS LIKE THE “GAMBIER LOCOS”
AND THE “CYRIL STREET LOCOS” DOING THEIR COSAS
BY THE 1980s EL SERENO WAS SO FULL OF HEADS THAT OTHER RAZA STARTED HAPPENING
LIKE THE STONER GENERATION
JP BOYS, HAVEN BOYS AND THE IRON BOYS
BY THIS TIME EL SERENO HAD GROWN OUTSIDE ITS ORIGINAL BORDERS
THE HIGHLANDS, AURANT, HILLSIDE VILLAGE AND UNIVERSITY HILLS (METRO HILLS) GOT ADDED TO THE MAP
EL SERENO RIFA WENT ON TO BE REPRESENTED BY THOSE LIKE
LOCKE STREET BOYS
THE DITCH LOCOS
ITHACA STREET LOCOS
GUARDIA STREET LOCOS (NORTH PARK)
HILL SIDE
AND LOWELL STREET LOCOS BEFORE THE GREEN..
WHICH THEN GOT SEMI-BROUGHT BACK IN AFTER THE GREEN
THE HISTORY OF EL SERENO CONTINUES TO BE WRITTEN…

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
of course in that crayola map, it fails to show both NELA13 & DOG TOWN on the map., the map in fact, shows it all as AVES territory, but it was not so, not even in the 1970s., NELA13 held Chicano Park as well as some if not most of the same area that Dog Town holds today, northwest of Figueroa., HLxP also in-between 43RD/57TH AVES and the rest of the AVES in Garvanza. There were also The Stand Alone Avenues ~> 60TH AVES <~ not shown on the map posted.alexalonso wrote:this map should be clearer

inside the Primera Flats territory shown on the map, and more in particular on the Brooklyn Avenue and Aliso Village side, where ALCxP & ELA13 sharing the grounds with PxF.alexalonso wrote:this map should be clearer
ALCxP had the Jokers and later the Diablos cliques, and ELA13 had the Niteowls and Dukes cliques, later also the Rascals.

PRIMERA CHICOS are somewhat offside on the map., they're from the 1970's alright, and yeah their hood was taken over originally by VKKR, but they're mostly used to be be from Eastman, west to Indiana, in what later became Indiana Dukes territory.alexalonso wrote: 34. PC (next to King Kobras)

PCS
roamed around from (N) Whittier, (S) to Union Pacific, (W) to Indiana, and (E) to Gage Avenue
Active in the 1970s, but died out by the early-to-mid 1980s
they had the cliques of PRIMEROS, ENANOS & PEQUENOS
used to get along firme with EAST LOS, and both varrios died out about the same years

Re: 1978 East Los (East LA) Gang Territory Map - 1978
other things to mention missing from that map, right off the top, is the fact that VAR did not go all the way to the river's edge., ALPINE stayed closed to china town and going north along Sunset towards ExP., Solano Locos (La Loma) stayed closer to Elysian Park and the river's edge., and over on the far east side, Barrio Resta & Moeriya where both around in what Marianna MV now claims., both Resta & MYA where always associated with MM., and then over in Boyle Hts, both VST & SST where also around, but not shown on the crayola map.
