Drifters 23st malos
They started on my street which is 23st between La Salle and Normandie and were very active during the 90s. Today they are fading away and you only see hit ups but no members. They got along with the rollin 20 bloods very good but the Harpys were/are their worst enemy. Their original hood colors were red and black before they started claiming southside. Og Speedy from this hood used to tell me how my pops frm 20 bloods took him to the Harpys and told them he was his homeboy and not to mess with him and also set up 1 on 1 fights but eventually the killing started. Even though they are fading away the Harpys still avoid their territory which is Normandie to the east. Western to the west. Adams blvd to the south. And the freeway to the north. Back in the day when you came down 23st there would be about 20 Dfs hangin at the top of the hill on La Salle and about 50 nhb20s in the middle of the block and they got along and even hung together sometimes. Anybody got some history of the Drifters? Their other clicks and around the time they started? Im not sure when they made it to 23st but i know they were their before the 90s. Anyone know which is the 1st Dfs hood?
Re: Drifters 23st malos
I know they got their Pico Union area, north of Venice & east of Vermont. I don't know if thats where they first started??? They go at it with everyone around there-Playboys, 18st, Easy Riders, GODS, etc.
They're also over around Mansfield area off Pico where they go at it with BYGC.
I thought they had a spot in the OC too??

Drifters are supposedly in OC too. They say they have cliques in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and Anaheim, but you never hear about them. Ive seen a DRIFTERSX3 ANAHEIM X GARDEN GROVE tagging once close to Disney land.

Re: Drifters 23st malos
Just saw some Drifters off Adams and LaSalle last week. They are still there, small turf, and surround by Harpys on most sides.

Isn't the graffiti writer RETNA associated with the Drifters in Mid City?
I know a lot of those LTS crew came out of that area. For those who don't know, RETNA does all that tall calligraphy collages that you see on a lot of trendy buildings. He did the album cover for Justin Bieber's 'Purpose'.

I always thought the original DFS hood was in West La the pico locos click. They share their territory with the Mansfield crips. I heard they were originally a car club during the 70s.

I know the hood you're talking about... They're like around Venice & Redondo...Effboy wrote:I always thought the original DFS hood was in West La the pico locos click. They share their territory with the Mansfield crips. I heard they were originally a car club during the 70s.
That was the first DFS hood I knew about since I grew up near there, but I always thought the original DFS hood was in Pico-Union... their hood boundaries are roughly:
East: Hoover
South: Venice
West: Vermont
North: Olympic

That makes me wonder what are all the football teams turned hoods.
Rockwood Street, Big Top Locos, and Head Hunters I heard were football teams from Belmont High...
I'm not sure if Wanderers were a football team or not...

Re: Drifters 23st malos
Is it fair to say most gangs didn't start out with the mindset of becoming a gang... they just got sucked into it...
Gangs often start out as:
Party crews (can't think of any)
Dance crews (I think Playboy Gangster Crips started out as a dance crew)
Stoner crews (MS-13, Mid City)
Taggers (Blastin Fools Gangster Crips, Diablos 13, Evil Klan, 51 Trouble Gangster Crip)
Neighborhood family/friends (Nutty Blocc, etc.)
Sports teams (Drifters, Rockwood Street, White Fence)
Car/motorcycle clubs (Sotel 13, Choppers 12, PlayBoys)
Community Center Youth groups (Black P. Stone)
I remember BG Knocc Out spoke about the early days of Nutty Blocc Compton Crip and he said they didn't see themselves as a gang in the beginning -- just friends from the neighborhood who kicked it together. The gang part comes in when they have to protect themselves from other hoods and then they just get sucked into the lifestyle...
