The West Side (WS) Mad Cunts 13 (MCS13) gang is a long standing Sureño gang coming out of Koreatown in Westside Los Angeles, Los Angeles, San Andreas.

The modern-day Mad Cunts Gang consists of two sub-sets; the Mad Cunts “Dead End” and the Mad Cunts “Wild Bunch”. These two cliques were originally local football teams who competed in a community-level league. Both merged as one with the larger West Side Mad Cunts 13 gang in twenty eleven. Over the years more cliques were formed, with the most prominent of these cliques being the Arbutus Street Tiny Winos.

The gang is primarily comprised of Mexican Americans who were born and raised within the unique street gang and organized crime culture of the neighborhood. Despite the current ethnic demographic of the gang, there are past members who were undocumented Mexican / Central American immigrants, Caucasian Americans, African Americans and Asian Americans of Cantonese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Korean, Indian, Pakistani and Arab heritage. The unique racial and ethnic origin of the gang's past demographic makeup owes itself to the ethnic and racial diversity of Koreatown itself.

The gang's main source of revenue is the automotive vehicle theft industry in the neighborhood, along with illicit narcotics trafficking and extortion of businesses such as convenience stores, supermarkets and laundromats.

THE WEST SIDE MAD CUNTS: A HISTORY

The gang was founded in the early sixties by five Mexican American gang members in Koreatown who were disaffected by the leadership of their old gangs. The five founders of the gang: Paul Lopez, John Soto, Patrick Rodriguez, Henry Velasquez and Harold Aguilar all came from impoverished families with roots in East Los Angeles. All of their family members were entrenched within Mexican American street gangs and Mexican American organized crime in East Los Angeles, before and during the massive demographics shifts in the forties and fifties, which saw white flight from South Central Los Angeles and the subsequent redlining of neighborhoods within the South Central district of the city.

The five young men were middle - high ranking members of a Chicano street gang in the neighborhood that was known as Los Vipers. Originally a car club, Los Vipers made the transition to a street gang by the late fifties. This was at the same time that the five founders banded together while in high school and made the choice to join the street gang. However, come the early sixties, the gang was torn apart by infighting and external factors such as rival gangs. Come the spring of sixty four, the five founders of The West Side Mad Cunts decided to split from the dysfunctional gang.

In the winter of sixty six, Paul Lopez and John Soto were given the option to enlist in the United States Armed Forces or to be incarcerated in a state penitentiary for their involvement in the murder of 32 year old, East Los Angeles born-and-raised African American gangster Thomas "Tommy Gun" Wiggins. Thomas Wiggins had recently arrived in Koreatown in fifty nine to capitalize on what was the new golden land of opportunity for gang members and gangsters in South Central Los Angeles. Come the summer of sixty five, he was muscling in on the turf of the West Side Mad Cunts Gang and a bounty was placed on his head. In the autumn of sixty five, he was smothered to death with a pillow in the comfort of his own social housing unit on 26th Street as he slept in the middle of the night on November 5, 1965. Paul Lopez and John Soto were arrested and subsequently taken to the municipal criminal court of Los Angeles for withholding incriminating information from the Los Angeles Police Department, for witness intimidation and for extortion. In the face of going to prison for five - twenty years, the duo decided to comply with the American draft in the Vietnam War and enlist in the United States Marine Corps instead.

Upon completing boot camp and job school in the autumn of sixty six, Paul Lopez and John Soto were deployed to Vietnam a month and two weeks after being sworn into the United States Armed Forces. Private Paul Lopez was stationed in Phu Bai Combat Base and committed criminal activities there, where he engaged in both dealing and consuming psychedelic drugs to / with other Marines who conformed to the hippy and psychedelia culture. Private John Soto was stationed in Dong Ha Combat Base and moved into the fields of illegal gambling and loansharking while living there.

Private First Class Paul Lopez of the 3rd Battalion 7th Marines of the 1st Marine Division was killed by mortar fire on the night of January 31, 1967 while fighting the Soviet-backed Viet Cong in Operation Desoto. Lance Corporal John Soto of 2nd Battalion 5th Marines of the 1st Marine Division fought in the Battle of Hue between February 6 - March 3, 1968. His paternal cousin, a known East Los Angeles extortionist, gangster and United States Army Corporal by the name of David Soto had been killed by soldiers from the North Vietnamese Army while fighting in the Tet Offensive that January. When the Battle of Hue concluded, John Soto was a physical and psychological wreck. With that in mind, along with consideration towards his relatively old age of twenty seven to Marine standards, he was shipped back to the United States and spent the rest of his service in the United States Marine Corps at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Fierro, San Andreas. He continued his criminal activities here until he was let go from the military. He was given an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps at the rank of Sergeant in September 1971 at the age of thirty. He squandered no time at all in getting back to his old stomping ground. He set foot back in Koreatown just three days after his honorable discharge.

With the remainder of the original founders of the gang either deceased in the streets or having been incarcerated for refusing to comply with the draft, the gang was given a massive benefit by the prison and military mentality that was brought back to the streets by the founding members who came home from state penitentiaries and the military. With the returns of John Soto from the United States Marine Corps, Patrick Rodriguez from a state penitentiary in Whetstone and Harold Aguilar from a state penitentiary in municipal Las Venturas, the gang bolstered their recruitment drive come the early seventies. The gang's three shotcallers, through the middle echelon of the gang, always gave thorough education to new recruits of the gang in being an infantryman and how to conduct lucrative criminal activities with specialized methods in avoiding law enforcement detection. This effectively made them into one of, if not the most militant street gang in all of South Central Los Angeles in terms of knowing both rural and urban warfare. At the same time, they made themselves into one of the most avid gangs in terms of making fast and easy money in behind-closed-doors schemes while simultaneously avoiding law enforcement detection. By the mid seventies, the gang was flying the Sureño flag and had officially added 13 to their name.

After the gang had fully transitioned to both firearms trafficking and illicit narcotics trafficking from street brawls and extortion come the late seventies, the old founders were, like most other street gangs in the neighborhood at the time, phased out by the up and coming gang members from Koreatown . Daniel Escobar established the gang's presence in state penitentiaries throughout Southern San Andreas and continued to represent the gang after being transferred to the San Andreas Correctional Facility in Northern San Andreas in eighty eight.

After John Soto was released from a federal penitentiary on a seven year period of incarceration for firearms and heroin trafficking in eighty six, he moved across the country in the midst of the American crack epidemic and settled in Arlington, Virginia to live the rest of his days out with some of the buddies that he served with as a Marine in Vietnam. Having retired from running a crack cocaine distribution ring that stretched from Arlington to Washington D.C. which operated from eighty eight to ninety three, he died from lung cancer while residing in a hospice in Winchester, Virginia in ninety seven. He was fifty six years old.

With John Soto's passing, the gang's old founders had all but died in state penitentiaries, on the streets and in Vietnam.

When the 18th Street gang came long in nineteen ninety to dislodge power over non-aligned street gangs in the neighborhood in order for them to install the Shatto Park Locos as their power hub, the West Side Mad Cunts were forced into seclusion and recluse come ninety two. Despite them waging urban warfare campaigns which went as far as forming 20 - 30 man / woman platoons modeled after infantry platoons that consisted of the gang's members, they were outnumbered and pummeled into attrition by 18th Street gang clicks from West Los Angeles and the Shatto Park Locos. With the 18th Street gang ruling the neighborhood with an iron fist, effectively putting them in the position of the de facto law, from ninety two to ninety five the gang's operations were drastically curbed and driven completely underground.

Members who wound up with a desire for leaving the gang did so by defecting to the 18th Street Shatto Park, fled Los Angeles altogether for elsewhere in San Andreas / the American West, got incarcerated, joined the United States Armed Forces to fight in the Gulf War or ended up dead in the streets of Koreatown and Westlake.

The rise of 18th Street in Koreatown and the gang injunctions and casefile in ninety five crippled all gangs through Koreatown , though the West Side Mad Cunts were the least affected. Operations continued throughout the remainder of the nineties and into the two thousands, where recruitment drives were boosted. Headed by Gulf War veterans who served in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps, ex-felons in both state and federal penitentiaries as street shotcallers and ultimately led by incarcerated Mexican Mafia member Daniel Escobar at the top of the ladder, the gang's tradition of being influenced by both the military and behind-closed-doors organized crime has continued to remain prevalent into twenty sixteen.

OPERATION ANGRY VAGINA

On July 7 2005, federal, rural and municipal law enforcement authorities participated in a sting dubbed "Operation Roman Empire", which saw the arrests of 29 members of the West Side Mad Cunts 13 who were named in a federal indictment. This federal indictment included Cesia Escobar, the daughter of Daniel Escobar, a well-known member of The Mexican Mafia in Southern San Andreas and one of the incarcerated leaders of the West Side Mad Cunts 13. He had been partially running the street gang from inside prison walls starting in eighty two and took full power of the gang during the 18th Street gang's power grab in nineteen ninety.

Despite serving a life sentence without parole at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, Daniel Escobar managed to run the Mad Cunts criminal enterprise from the correctional facility, though his daughter Cesia Escobar and her husband. The two allegedly ran the day-to-day operations of the Mad Cunts organization using mob tactics such as shake downs on small businesses, such as local taco and hamburger stands.

On May 1 2008, Cesia Escobar pleaded guilty to racketeering that included a slew of narcotics and weapons charges. She faces twenty years to life in a federal penitentiary. Cesia Escobar admitted that she acted as a conduit for her father's orders as he exercised control over the West Side Mad Cunts 13 gang. On May 7, 2013, Manuel Zelaya, a Honduran immigrant national and high-ranking member of the West Side Mad Cunts Gang who acted on orders from Daniel Escobar, pleaded guilty to federal racketeering and drug trafficking as well as engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. He was convicted and sentenced to thirty five years behind bars in a federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania on August 27, 2015.

WEST SIDE MAD CUNTS 13 TODAY

Though the past few years, especially from two thousand five to twenty sixteen have been very rough for the gang, the current members have toughed it out and are armed with informal military training and both street and prison smarts. The gang remains very small, though it has popped back up up on the Los Angeles Police Department's radar in the spring of twenty sixteen due to a sharp spike in gang and organized crime related violent crime.

The gang's rivals consist of the 18th Street Shatto Park Locos, the West Side Crazy Vatos 13, all Mara Salvatrucha 13 clicks and the Rollin Thirties Harlem Crips. The gang has very few allies in Koreatown, if any at all.

Neighborhood anti-crime activists and neighborhood anti-gang activists are warning against the revival of the West Side Mad Cunts 13 and continue to petition the Los Angeles Government to reverse the redlining of the neighborhood in order to provide for suburban gentrification efforts. Though, given the neglection of South Central Los Angeles as a whole, this seems certainly unlikely to ever happen in the near future.

Never heard of this gang and I grew up in that area. Please do not post fake information on this forum. This is the oldest, long standing and most accurate forum on gang history in the world as it pertains to Los Angeles. Lets do our best to keep it that way.
