I'd say that grime at this moment is better than most of/mainstream US rap. Grime is a new style (originated just few years ago) and hasn't (yet) been commercialized and watered down like nowadays rap is. Pretty much every grime album that comes out is solid. But don't get me wrong, I still listen to a lot of rap, but mostly albums that was released between 1990-1998. After that, after Bad Boy Records and all that, it kinda got watered down and now it's pretty difficult to find any really good albums or artists. And besides, grime and rap are after all two very different kinds of music styles so comparing those is difficult...perongregory wrote:nah, these Uk niggas always sayin that shit is better than American rap.
And about grime.... Nah, it's not fast house music, house music is something completely different. Grime is pretty much a mix of UK garage, dancehall, and jungle/dnb. Lyrics are most of the time pretty violent (as it originated in East London), and not very complicated with wordplays or such. Although, of course there are exceptions as always.
Here's a good example of grime tune and at the same time shows how rap and grime differs by sound -> http://download.yousendit.com/FD4C0E9E7C11379A -> Wiley - Icepole

For a good introduction to grime scene, check out Run The Road -compilation(s). The first one is the best.

Didn't say that grime would go mainstream (atleast in US). Hopefully not, because to be mainstream you need to be doing pop-sound - something that sound familiar for the masses. I like to see grime scene raw and original, like the raggajungle scene used to be back in the days in UK.Young Deuce wrote:haha if real cyphas niggaz kant get into mainstream rap what makes u think grime can?

I actually like the uncommercial stuff. The beats mostly, some of the vocals dont do it for me.

Yea, Lady Sov is commercial. What I've understood is that a lot of grime artists don't really respect her. But she got couple of nice tunes, although lately she hasn't done anything good.style wrote:

Techno? Do you even know what techno is?BxxMILITIA wrote:in my opinion, grime sucks....i dont really consider it rap, theyre on some techno, club, hyper music shit...n the UK accent makes the music sound real bad...US rap is better hands down....the UK needs 2 stop lyin 2 themselves, talkin about their rap is better than the US rap....
And about that UK accent (most of the cases it's really an East London accent, not particulary UK accent..) - to me it sound actually nicer than US accent. Been listening to US rap for ages, so that "UK accent" sounds just fresh and more "relaxed". A lot of people here likes that accent more than US accent.
And a lot of UK rappers got real talent, and their mainstream rappers/grime artists definetly got more talent than US mainstream "rappers".

that music(grime) IS NOT UK RAP, uk rap is uk rap, this is uk grime
that isn't uk rap though that is grimeBxxMILITIA wrote:i bet if u put some bronx rappers against some UK rappers, the bronx would lyricly molest them....
check this out, this is uk rap and tell me if these lyrics are wack

more uk hip hop
do u see the difference? UK Hip Hop is lyrically as sick as US rap trust, its just the accents are different.

I wrote "rappers" because most of your mainstream "rappers" can't rhyme or rap shit. That's why I won't call them rappers.BxxMILITIA wrote: if anything, the "rappers" r from the uk....we originated this shit so if there r any "rappers" i suppose they r from the uk....were the real deal....

More UK rap. TERRA FIRMA - WAR. Nice video, dope beat, and good flows. That you can really call rapping.
ye man mainstreams not even rap in my eyes its pop music, all this g-unit shit, etc its pathetic. it spoils hip hop dunnit. there is still sick us rappers in the underground but there mainstream has fucked hip hop up.punamusta wrote:Don't know about that... US mainstream is 100% garbage nowadays. But grime artists like Wiley got lyrical talent as well.Hydro2oo6 wrote:all grime is is similar to US mainstream lyric wise
But nevertheless, I listen both - UK rap and UK grime. Espeacially I like Klashnekoff, he's always dope.
n ye klash is fuckin sick, his lyrics, voice and flow are fire.
