Why do most all So Cal rappers need to claim hood/varrio????

Unread post by alexalonso » May 27th, 2013, 10:00 pm

It seem like now, nearly all Los Angeles rappers need to represent a hood to get their career jump started, even guys that are not from a hood. Where the heck is Tyga from? Compton or Hoover? These guys believe they need to or have to have street cred to rap.

It seems like Kendrick Lamar, by far the most successful right now, is being pushed to represent Piru. But is seems like every LA rapper needs to be the tough guy.

Kendrick Lamar doesn't claim or bang any hood from what I have heard....I like his CD...I know he has said that he has family affiliation with Piru and Crip so I think he and most of his crew has maintained a "we dont bang" approach.

Tyga....not sure, don't listen to him.

Most rappers that claim have a very watered down past....I think Glasses Malone pointed out a few years ago that the most banged out rapper is a Blood and isn't even from LA/Compton/Inglewood.

Lil Wayne

I also listen to Kendrick Lamar but not his album, just the main stream stuff you hear on the radio. So far I haven't heard gang ties but just reppin his hood. He seems to rep a street savvy guy but not a hood, thug or gansta. I hope this is true because his followers need to see that you can be from the hood and make it without being a gansta which usually displays toughness, crime then comes arrests and so on.

Let's give credit to the pple who can stand alone and not feel the need to be something that they are not.

Hopefully, ppl will follow the likes of Kendrick and focus soley on their music and talent versus trying to rep something they are not JUST to be popular and SELL their music. Usually, these kinda artists are TALENT-less. Kendrick is not!

Kendrick Lamar on Average Joe:
"I was walking from Centennial
When an unidentified vehicle rolled up, and I was like hol' up
Where you from? "I don't bang"
Where you stay? "Westside", that's a piru gang to be exact
Well aware they had blue across they hat
Dropped backpack and ran inside of the cul-de-sac
Shots rang out, hoping to God I wasn't wet
Crossed to cross Rosecrans and ran inside of the yet
Chirped the homies on the I-95, they said they already knew
What happened, and meet 'em outside the garage..."

This problem comes from the street......its cats that claim sets they ain't from due to being insecure....there are many reasons but i will use one.......there are so many gangs out here so if you don't bang its like your a nobody.........that's why you see people who don't bang say they know such and such who do bang.......or be like I stay in this set or that set.....I only know a few rappers respected by they sets by real killaz

I read in some rappers youtube comments, that his gang related videos get a lot more clicks then just the good music without any extras.
So i guess thats it.

I thought for sure K DOT was a blood. Being a blood or looking like a blood, seems to be trendy in the rap game these days.
