Fuck, I need to start fact checking before posting, like I would if it were a more important topic like politics and whatnot. My bad.

Well he moved to Oakland after living in Marin for whatever reason. The funny thing is, I think they were trying to stay away from the ghetto and ended up in the ghetto of Marin (the jungles). He represented Marin in some of his early recordings and he rapped with a group from there called 51.50. They never made it big, but were known in the bay area underground and them having a falling out with Tupac probably didn't help.

Yeah Marin is a upper middle class wealthy white city and county I believe he picked Oakland becaue of Black Gangsterism in Oakland, the Black Panthers and BGF are mostly Oakland Natives the founders of both factions it fit his perception of a gangster rapper...Sad But true he was not a gangster he played the role and got smoked,That world mixes with that world rap and gangsters, some are like snoop dog is a real Crip Tupak never belonged to a GANG that I know of???

Yeah I can't say he was in a gang, but he definitely associated with them. I think it was the black panther roots that brought Tupac to Oakland. I don't think he liked his music being called gangster rap, but he considered himself a thug.

Off the top I can only think of Bangin on Wax Bloods and Crips being Real gang members. Snoop might have been a Rollin 30's crip but I doubt he moved up the ranks beyond a corporal so to speak, he never gave me the impression of being a hardcore member but The Eastsiders rap duo he rolled with back then looked more of the part.

Yeah they did do good for themselves but they came a little before the time when rappers were truly making the big $. Short actually had 2 or 3 number #1 songs I believe. I don't think I've heard any of his earliest rap songs before The Life is Too short album. I actually caught a documentary on him this week. anyone who has TVOne and is any kind of R&B/Rap music fan should check this show out on there called "Unsung" they've featured quiet a few old school rappers. check this out:

Marin City isn't Richmond or Oakland. I've been there. It has a small mall with your typical block stores as soon as you drive in. There are some projects and apartment complexes and a few small businesses throughout. If there is gang activity it's kept low key. I see more graffiti next door in Sausalito by the house boats or in San Rafael in the canal zone.

Is the graffiti in Sausalito gang related? I'll bring up some other stuff I found, but probably in one of our Nor*Cal threads, cuzz this has been off topic.

Bumperjack, I get what you're saying. At the moment we're practically neighbors, wasn't born here, moved a lot over the years.
I have no inside info on Tupac, except what like most everyone else I read or third hand rumors.

I hear ypu MonkEastman, I only know from his life I have no first hand knowledge neither but your actions usually show your intensions,by following his life to some degree I assume he played with fire and got killed by fire from a bullet. In the Gansta Rap Game...

We can assume, some truth only to a degree, but what I do know you mix any music with that gangster lifestyle if your not really with the business it can be your demise...

That was actually pretty nice! A lot better than what I thought (kinda thought this guy wouldn't have any skills and is doing videos only because of his famous brothers).

Here's some Finnish "criminal rap". One of these guys is currently serving a life sentence for murder, while some others have spend time in prison and still doing "something". The first video isn't that great as musical-wise, but shows how it goes in here. Pretty "Eastern European style" in it, I think. The second video has more like the current mainstream sound.

"grown on concrete"

Here are the lyrics (as you know a lot of it gets lost in translation and doesnt really make sense anymore):

With the head against the wall,
the struggle still isnt finished,
no starting capital, i just have my two hands,
nobody ever believed i d make it this far,
but i need to get out, need to feel some sun,
grown on concrete,
heroic stories made in Wedding,
solid rock in turbulent waters,
polished by the waves,
i take it as it is,
my own destiny, a brother becomes father for his brothers (referring to him and his two younger brothers who never had their dad around them)
put more weight on my shoulders,
the faster my muscles build up,
i stare into the flames before i look to the ground,
diamonds are created under pressure,

2X

And you cant stop me,
and i break through the asphalt,
grown on concrete,
i stand proud like a tree, whatever comes
i pursue my dream
grown on concrete,
and you wont get me out,
this is my home forever,
grown on concrete,
roots are deeply entrenched in the streets
the crown reaches the highest floors

2nd:

The knowledge that i have:
A knife penetrates skin easily, but not scars,
hard shell, but good guy inside,
learned walking on broken glass,
grown on concrete ,
0-3-0 Area (Berlin phone code),
i bite hard just like a bullterrier,
i am walking alone, i dont need a gang,
i have walked through fire, you cant burn ashes,
i never believed in politics and stuff like that,
so many stones in my way i could build houses,
grown on concrete,
we are diamonds in the dirt,
no opportunities, but we still used them,
grown on concrete,

etc. repeat of the chorus several times...

This is his new Song....

You know, you've been posting some German "gang-rap", like HAs & Bandidos, etc. Always wondered when that lands here in Finland, too. Now it has. This rapper is from United Brotherhood, a Finnish O.C. gang - maybe the most notorious one. Also some other members on the video.
