Klein has quite a few good books out about gangs. Some of his most recent work has called for gang research, to be more effective, to compare gang members/units/locations etc.. across the world.

He also supports the euro gang definition of street gangs which is "a street gang is any durable street orientated youth group whose own identity includes involvement in illegal activity".

Also he mentions that all other gang characteristics we are accustmed to citing are not definers but descriptors (ethnicity, age, gender, clothing...)

Another item worth looking at is his "Value of Comparisons in Street Gang Research" (Malcolm W. Klein, USC) Journal of Contempory Criminal Justice, Vol 21 No 2 May 2005 pp. 135-152

Hey Alonso, just noticed Klein went to USC, do you know him? And what are your thoughts on his work and adoption of Eurogang definiton?
