2 Men Killed In South Robertson Area Shooting

(CBS) LOS ANGELES Two men were killed Thursday night in what was thought to be a gang-related shooting less than a miles from where Hamilton high School student Anna Interiano was killed two days earlier.

The shootings were reported at 8:17 p.m. in the 2000 block of South Garth Avenue, near La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles Fire spokesman Brian Ballton said.

The victims, who were not identified, were West Los Angeles residents.

Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee declined to say if the shooting was related to Interiano's death, saying it appeared to be gang-related and the investigation was going.

he got shot in a drive by, the last convo i had with him he was telling me bout a teenage girl who got shot n died in his arm's, no more then a week ago, i wish i got to have one more possitive convo with him before this. He told me that there was a teenage girl walking home from school when a car of men got out and shot her, right outside stal's house. i dont think stal knew the girl but he saw her and grabbed her and tried to rush her to a hospital or anything he could. He told me he rememberd saying everything's going to be ok to her, everything will be ok. then he told me she died in his arm's. This was on the news aswell, i wish i would of saved the link he gave me about it. Two Shot Dead Within A Block Of Mayor Visiting West LA

LOS ANGELES -- Police continued searching for witnesses Friday to the fatal shooting of two men who had been raising money for the funeral of a 16-year-old girl who was killed just blocks away in West Los Angeles.

Julio Perez and William Avalos, both 20, were shot shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday when they were confronted by one or more suspects, police said.
They were pronounced dead at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
The men had been collecting money for the family of 16-year-old Ana Interiano.
Ana was walking home from Hamilton High School with friends on Tuesday, and was in an alley in the 8900 block of Cadillac Avenue when a male got out of a white SUV and fired at the group, striking her in the head. She died at a hospital five hours later.
Thursday night's shooting occurred just a few blocks from the teen's home in the 2000 block of South Garth Avenue.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was on his way to the home at the time to meet with the girl's mother. He said he was about 150 feet away when the shots rang out.
"I was told ... that I shouldn't continue, but I was concerned for the mother because I understood there was a number of people moving in the direction of the mother's home, so I went to the mother's home and told them to go inside the house and they did," Villaraigosa told NBC4. "I went in the house with them," the Mayor said.
It was unclear whether last night's shooting and the girl's death were related, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Paul Vernon said.
"One of the men killed had been a witness to the July 11 shooting, but we have not confirmed his murder was retaliation or coincidence," Vernon said.
Vernon said in a televised report that detectives on the case believe "it's looking (like) much more of a coincidence."
Police believe both shootings were gang-related but did not immediately say whether the two men killed were suspected gang members.
The girl had no gang affiliation, police said.
On Friday, the City Council approved a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Ana's killer.
After last night's shooting, her brother, Christian Espinoza Martinez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony battery on a police officer when he allegedly tried to push past officers at the crime scene.
On Friday, a candlelight vigil was scheduled for Interiano at 7p.m. at Palms Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2908 Robertson Place.
