I saw the beginning and loved it. It has had GREAT reviews and I am probably gonna buy it also. I didn't see the ending.

This movie is one of my all time favourite movies. It is powerful as hell. Anyone who thinks they got it bad in there hood will probably appreciate where they live just that little bit more after seeing this.

Its got a good documentary on the DVD too about what life is really like in the favelas/shanty towns in Rio, not too dissimilar from like it is on the film.

This movie is AWESOME. I recommend it to everyone. Definately check out the DVD if you can. That documentary NW10 mentioned is incredible. It's almost worth buying just for that.

the movies was 1 of the best i've ever seen but i have a few questions about it.

1.on my cable guide it says "two young cariocas deal drugs, kill and steal". what is a cariocas?

2.lil ze was calling knockout ned a ni**er and saying strip ni**er in the club. meanwhile lil ze looked black as can be. whats the deal?

3.there seemed to be a lot of different colored people. lil ze, carrot, knockout ned, taigo, rocket, rockets friend, benny, angelica, the photographers. they were all a different shade but all lived in the city. are they all brazilian or whats the deal with all of this?

4.what 2 "friends" was my guide referring to?

5.what language was this movie spoken in?

In lots of movies like this black people refer to one another using the N-word. Same happens in the film Belly when they get some guy to strip, people tellin him to do it are african-american as is he. As for exactly why i dont know?

Yer they all Brazilian, colour dont make a difference. There are black, asian, indian and white people in the USA who were born and raised there so they are still all American. Brazil is about 50% white, 40% mixed white and black and almost 10% black.

Yeah, its an amazing movie. Part that touched me most was when Lil Dice gets his new member to make a choice between left or right. I don't wanna ruin it for those who haven't seen it but thos of y'all who have kno what i'm talkin about. Btw, i don't know if this was mentioned before but i read somewhere that this movie is based on the real life story of the Director who used to live in the City of God but made it out by becoming a photographer.
