Best Rapper from 2006 - 2009

Postby alexalonso » November 12th, 2009, 2:01 am

I want to know who you think was the best rapper during this era. When I sat best rapper I dont mean best rap song, but the actual best rapper. I also dont mean the most records sold, just the best rapper.

After listening to Jay Rock from Watts, I think he is one of the most talented lyricist of this era, and also Nipsey Hussle is right up there. This is their time to shine.

Drake was nice for 2009, and Nas with "Hip Hop is Dead" was nice for 2006-2007

NAS was in 2006-7 - Tracks I liked - Black Republican, Carry On Tradition!

Drake is garbage, he has good lyrics but hes not writing those himself, hes just singing and rapping what people have wrote for him!

2006-2009, rap is dead at this point...

except ima second T.I., that man has lyrical ability, flow and swag. he's the best rapper by far, and one of the best all time in my opinion. I'll give credit to jeezy to his 2006 release was good n he made some quality music after that. I can't even call drake n the new lil' wayne rappers...

the most annoying thing about "rap" nowadays is these stupid ass noisy, no-rhythm DJ Khaled tracks with 5+ rappers shouting generic, lame ass rhymes into the fuckin mic while we watch the cliche highspeed getaway or kingpin transaction music video its played with. Then i gotta listen to that fat fuck yell DJ KHALED WE THE BEST!!! every 10 seconds. You know what I'm talking about, the latest one had Usher in it, where he's singing "sick n tired of being sick n tired" sounds like a fuckin commercial song.

Jay Rock + Nipsey, consistently good tracks. Nipsey's got the better beats, but lyrically Jay Rock is a killer, you can grab ANY mixtape by either of these two and play it start to finish.

Have to second Alonso, this is their time. I'm shocked that WB dropped Jay Rock, he's money in the bank for the rap game IMO. Still waitin on that Nipsey album too, damn the constant push backs :P At least they both put out new mixtapes recently though. .

I like Jeezy, he's the only maintstream rapper besides T.I. that I won't switch off if they come on TV or the radio. I like his delivery and his lyrics are decent.

Man what a joke, this fool probably made the DJ wait till his ghostwriter sent him his rhymes. Drake lives off hype, his stupid ass nasally voice and his degrassi fame, that's it.

Conejo's the only southerner I listen to, probably some of the best beats and raps I've heard ANYWHERE in the rap game, but I wish he'd change up his style more often because he can get down but sometimes he sticks to his base rhyme scheme. Sometimes I listen to CRC too, since they're not as big on the sur side thing like Capone-E and his people.

But mostly I listen to north side shit like Woodie, who's definitely in my top 5 all time. Everyone thinks he only made those 2 CD's but the joints he put on the Northern Expozure compilations was always dope.

I don't really listen to the east coast underground rappers or the black rappers from the west coast just cuz there's so damn many of em, I don't know where to start.

He was one of the few who appeared on Rap City and actually freestyled.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you but I try to listen to as many as I can.
