In the spirit of thankfulness, many rappers are giving back to the communities of their upbringing.
Mistah F.A.B. has been on a turkey drive since Tuesday to give away meals to the struggling families of the Bay Area, enthusing to San Francisco Weekly, “Imagine being poor and growing up in the ghetto, and you answer the door and someone handing you a turkey!” It is one of a number of charitable events F.A.B. has started, including toy drives and back-to-school backpack drives, to keep up the good will throughout the year.
B.o.B. donated $10,000 to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless on his birthday, explaining to HipHopDX, "I want to give back because I feel like my community is what’s important to me and what showed me the ropes." He further challenged other rappers to join in the spirit of support and appreciation by promising to match monetary gifts to the foundation from the next artist. Ludacris and Big Boi, amongst other celebrities, will be joining the cause by hosting a "Roll Over Hunger" skate party at the Cascade Family Skate Center in Atlanta. Some may even be caught taking to the rink.
