if you break down the original hebrew or aramaic in the old testament/torah the commandment 'thou shalt not steal' is widely acknowledged to mean thou shalt not steal PEOPLE ie trade in slaves
it is an original proscription, after the tribulations of the jews under pharoah they were understandably extremely anti slavery

you go a bit deeper it was bonded labour, manumitted after 6 years, thats different to what slavery meant in modern times
god poured out plagues on egypt for racially based slavery, thats what muggybollocks who started this post off was talking about
america i feel has been cursed because of it too in all honesty, it could have so easily been the promised land, escaping from the corruption of absolute monarchy and popery to set up a new land based on equality and godliness, but they instituted slavery and committed genocide against the natives, and hate and violence has followed down the years to this very day

The passage you are referring to about bonded labour ending after 6 years is Exodus 21:2-6, and refers to keeping Hebrew slaves only.

Leviticus 25:44-46:

Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.

Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.

And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.

im gonna be honest and say i really cant be arsed to have an indepth argument about what is isnt may or may not be in the bible, i get tired of ragging jehovahs witnesses at the best of times, shit loads of it got left out anyway after the council of nicaea, already it was becoming a political document
