Listen to these beautiful Afro-Latina's tell their stories of growing up and experiencing racism within the Latin Community as they say, as well as their own families because some were darker or lighter than others.
I thought this was great because I grew up w/Puerto Rican homeboys for years and I always thought they were black. The funny part about it was that one day we were all ditching school to get high at my potnas house when his moms came home and caught us. I remember seeing his moms and noticing how she was lighter than them and she could speak Spanish. So she started cussing him out in Spanish and what tripped me out is when he started talking back to her in Spanish. I never knew him and his brothers could speak Spanish because they didn't have accents. We left his house and I remember like it was yesterday(and this was around 92-93), saying "Dog yall Puerto Rican" amd they busted out laughing and said "Yes"..I just kept saying "I thought yall was black"..Of course tossing up a few getty green sticks made it even funnier.lol
