Two men sentenced in school shootings
New, 6:10 p.m. Long prison terms handed down in Taft High School attacks.
From wire service reports
Two gang members who shot and wounded three students at Taft High School -- one of whom was left paralyzed -- were sentenced in Van Nuys today to 120 years to life in prison.
Terry Taylor, 22, and Jeffery Trinell Young, 23, were found guilty Nov. 15 of three counts each of attempted murder and mayhem stemming from the Sept. 9, 2003, gang-related shooting.
The victims, two boys and a girl, had no gang affiliations, authorities said.
Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman said she was pleased with the sentences handed down by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Darlene Schempp.
"I believe she needed to take these gang members off the street,'' the prosecutor said.
Taylor and Young will not be eligible for parole for at least 120 years, Silverman said.
