Bui Doi: Life Like Dust.
Life, for most young Vietnamese gang members in the U.S., is Bui Doi, "a life like dust." Interviews Ricky Phan, currently serving an 11-year sentence for armed robbery in a California State prison. Expansion of the award-winning short film. 28 min. Video/C 3238
I hate to be a killjoy but how do you know it's a shame. Maybe they are all a lot happier today overall and earning in different ways without all the risk and BS. Are you in a position to know?

Killjoy, you gotta understand that many Asian gangs don't work the same way that your typical Black/Hispanic gangs do. Sometimes, they have ties to higher levels of organized crime, and in losing some key members, they may also lose their connection, which may make the gang obsolete. Or maybe they were just in a position to have to be on the down low and show no more signs of activity. Or maybe they are still having high levels of activity that you never will hear about. There's lots of other things that may happen with these kind of gangs, or maybe they really did just get scared, lose heart, and call it quits.
I know nothing about Natoma Boys, so I can't speak on it, but I'm just saying, it's not always what it seems.

Natoma Boyz did not die out because Ricky phan got locked up. Ricky was not a leader in NB. Many NB moved to Boston, Mass... Louisiana... Houston, Tex... and Missouri... many of the NB who remained in Orange County, Long Beach and Riverside areas either were deported back to Viet Nam or are doing life in Prison. The was a time in the mid 90's when the OC Asian Gang Task force was after NB and NF when they went to war against Cheap Boyz. And NB was active in 97 in OC. I was out there when Natoma Boyz (NB) Natoma Boyz Jr. (NBJ) and Nip Family (NF) were rolling together in 97 before i went to Missouri to to get away from a warrant. I haven't seen my homeboys in years but it is my understanding they are active in Houston Texas. And the ones in OC from my understanding are more focused on business then on Gang Banging.. it is not that NB died out it is that they went into criminal business in place of banging.. That is what I have heard from others...

I can say.. I miss my home boys.. I am only 36.. but I miss the fights, I miss going to the drink ca phe and hanging at the bida like side pocket or tri q. Dont really miss the crazy shit... but kow with the crazy laws.. hell I have 2 strikes and dont feel like getting a 25 to life... i have better things to do with the next 23 years of my life.... but I miss those days.... I would love to hang out and go out and kick some ass like before..... I like going to the mol... I enjoyed eating for free in the resturants we protected.. I enjoyed alot of the stuff we did.... didnt enjoy the 7 years in YA and the 18 months in CDC but hell.... had fun getting there.... I would do it again if I could... my homeboys were closer to me then my family was.... So I can say... I am less happy not hanging with my homeboys.. although I am happy I dont have to worry about 5.0 arresting me... and it is fun being able to talk shit to the police and not worrying about them finding something to lock my ass up for

But it sadden me that Natoma Boyz is not active in OC. We were one of the few original Viet gangs from the 80's. We had rules and honor... we followed the rules... never gang bang against an enemy who is with their family... never gang bang in school or at church (synagogue for me).... never bang against an enemy at their home.... it was different in the 80's... there was respect... you dressed nice.. the cops never knew who was a gang member or who was a school boy.. not know... it has changed.... BUT ... i wish there was still a crew out there in OC riding for the Natoma Boyz name... and maybe there is.. I heard rumors that many of the older homies hooked up with business.. so maybe some juniors are still being recruited.... I lost contact and have been out of the loop since 97/98

It is very sad nowadays that many youngsters don't follow the code of honor in the underworld. There was one code that most youngsters don't follow no more, is respecting your elders (OGs), hurting children and women, randomly causing violence and trouble. A lot of youngsters want to get their name known, not knwoing they are bringing more trouble ot themselves now. I got involved with a crew in the Early 2000's. Talked to a friend who was a OG from an Wah CHing in the 80's. he told me, the code of honor doesn't ring a ear to youngsters no more.AdamNB wrote:But it sadden me that Natoma Boyz is not active in OC. Re: Natoma boyz of Orange County
Actually Natoma Boyz died out for good in 2001. In 2000 I'd say around that time they were still out. Also DF, DFj, NF, KBC,BF,BFJ,wise men,YL... I remember going to a Natoma boyz party and there was a gang of them.. I can't remember any names. At that time they weren't really active but still was revered as a gang. Id say because they didn't run around in 3s hitting people up like NF or DF. If you was around them it always was a gang of them.. I was surprised to find out that they beef it with black dragon tho. Which is a L.A 626 chinese gang. Oh and Nbz was a little more Americanized then BF or bFJ... I guess since they came from a different side of town.
