Updated SD County gang list

Here is a list that I compiled of active SD County gangs. This list was compiled for a report (maybe future study) on the gang culture in San Diego. This list includes contributions from active gang members, ex-gangmembers, and law enforcement. Most of the contributions were made by active gang members, with comments from ex-gang members and law enforcement. There are probably some gangs not listed, feel free to comment-or add. Some of these gangs may have also turned inactive.

Some of those ESD gangs may be inactive. Normal Heights and North Park seem like they fell of the map. Last I heard, Parkside was no more...but I am probably wrong...it seems like many gangs go through phases of activity/inactivity (Varrio Chollas is sorta like that). I heard parkside hasn't been active since the mid 90's. And I'm not sure if LHC is still active at one point in the 90's, they had a lot of heads in the Colina del Sol neighborhood.

East Dago Mob has some youngsters reppin 44th and 46th street. But I think the set has gotten smaller compared to the late 80's/early 90's.

About EHBG and Upside Sick...you got me. I always thought they were a seperate gang. i'm not even sure if Upside Sick is around if they are a seperate gang. In the late 80's and early 90's there were a few of blood sets that came out of Emerald Hills (aka Upside, Uptown, Hill City). OBB/UBB, Upside Sick, and EHBG. I think there was a progression of Bloods that started with Hill City Bounty Hunters in the early 80's, to Original Bunny Boys (aka? Uptown Bunny Boys) and Upside Sick in the late 80's, to Emerald Hills Blood Gang in the early 90's. If I have a chance I'll try to ask and OG from there.

Bloccide has always been small and on and off. LAP is small, and probably going the way of inactivity, but there are still some older cats that are active claiming it.

FWI and YBD are all youngsters, and they are high school click-like. Both sets claim Blood, and they do participate in in violent gang rivalries between each other, and gangs from SESD. Supposedly both beef with EDM. Both small sets could very well grow into larger gangs. Many gangs have started from high school children clicking up with each other.

EGPosse use to be multiethnic set that turned Blood (late 80's/early 90's). There were whites, African Americans, and Pinoys in EGP. There might have been some Samoans and Mexicans in EGP as well (i only remember whites, AA,and Pinoys). The set started becomming predominantly Pinoy during the mid to late 90's. Know they are known as Easy Going Pinoys. Like many other multiethnic sets, EGP, as a multiethnic gang, died off due to prison politics coming out into the streets (stick with your own mentality). Other multiethnic sets like LV Insane Family, FCW, and Bishop Boys died off-or evolved-because of this mentality.

BTW-i didn't add clicks to that list. Some of those hoods have a lot of clicks (like ESD13 for example). Although, some of there clicks are almost like completely seperate gangs.

There is a hood that I have been hearing about, Gangster Mafia Family. But it sounds like people are confusing them with Gangster Pimp Mafia. About the Brown Pride 619...Lonewolf might have better info but here's what I know

There was a gang called SS Brown Pride Locos 13 (AKA CV Brown Pride Locos 13) in Chula Vista, off of Hilltop and Naples. They haven't been active for a few years now...I guess they died off. they used to beef with Otay 13 and SS Diablos 13. I think they were Varrio Chula Vista confederates. Anyway, that whole "BPL"/"Brown Pride Locos" thing has me confused. It seems like BPL is a gang born out of California's Division of Juvenile Justice 's (AKA:California Youth Authority) system, or they started from relocated gang members. There are BPL "chapters" in a lot of Southern California cities (Chula Vista BPL, Escondido BPL, Compton BPL, South Los BPL etc...), and there are some "chapters" that have set up in other states (Las Vegas BPL, etc...).

I don't know anything about the 5-star thing though...The only sureno gangs in San Diego that use symbols (to the best of my knowledge) are Imperial 13, National City gangs, and Varrio Chula Vista.

Imperial 13 use a crown (king's crown)
National City gangs use the North Carolina NC logo
Varrio Chula Vista uses Chula Vista's City symbol (stylized sun over mountains, and the waves of San Diego Bay)

And about VCV's use of that symbol, they just recently started using it. It used to be that the only people who used that symbol, or got tattooed with it, where punk rockers, straight edgers, and non-racist skinheads from Chula Vista. So, not everyone in CV that uses that symbol is a gang member.

There is a hood that I have been hearing about, Gangster Mafia Family. But it sounds like people are confusing them with Gangster Pimp Mafia. I have also heard about an old set called 54th Street Bloods. I have never heard of them but there is a older cat that said they were a set in East Side, near Colina del Sol.

this might explain why i've noticed a huge increase of "bloods" walkin' around that area. i know of a lot of kids that go to either hoover or crawford that claim to be bloods. i guess everyone wants to be a blood these days..
