PORTLAND -- A local rapper survives after being shot a dozen times. Now police are on the hunt for the suspects.
Police say the shooting was gang-related, but they aren't releasing much more than that.
Family members say Ladarius Davis, who performs as Korbell, isn't involved in gangs, and they continue to monitor his recovery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
Surgeons operated on Korbell much of Sunday. Family members say he was shot after getting into an argument at a Portland bar. Korbell's cousin, Danny Hagger, says the family is still in shock.
"Twelve times and live -- that's a special person. I don't know anyone that can be shot 12 times and live. That's special -- that's a gift. I mean, he's blessed," Hagger said.
Hagger says he doesn't know for sure that his cousin is not involved in gangs but he doesn't believe that he is.
Police have yet to pass along any information on a possible suspect.
Davis is expected to survive.
UPDATE
Crips member gets prison term in rival shooting
Friday, September 09, 2005
A reputed member of the Columbia Villa Crips was sentenced Thursday to 71/2 months in prison for the attempted murder in February of a rival outside a North Portland bar.
Alan Jerome Bates, 24, pleaded guilty Aug. 3 in Multnomah County Circuit Court to shooting Ladarius Davis, 23, repeatedly at close range outside the Interstate Bar and Grill early Feb. 27.
Police said Bates, who they described as a member of the Columbia Villa gang, was in the bar when he learned that Davis was outside. Davis and Bates apparently had a running feud. Bates confronted Davis and fired round after round from a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. When the shooting stopped, Davis got up and started punching Bates, who ran away. Davis was treated for 13 bullet wounds. -- Anne Saker
