Ok I may be wrong, I was going by the stat that 80% of PRs considered themselves to be white. Yes Argentina is a majority white (European) country, another South American country with a huge white population is Brazil which is 50% white and 50% Mulatto/Black.

Yup there's definitely a caste system in Mexico. I think here in America it goes both ways though. My cousin, who happens to be a very dark skinned Chicano, be shooting his mouth off sometimes and calling everybody "wetback." lol Depends more on context I guess. Those percentages represent the aggregate (or totality) of individuals sampled. That means they chose a sample they believed was representative of the population at large and from that determined a mean (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mean). There is variance within the individuals sampled. So a particular individual in the study might have more or less African Black for example than the mean.

But if it's on a SAT test or whatever, it's for statistical things only, because if a white Latino from say Argentina came to America, then a language barrier might lead to different results, so that's why they don't count white hispanic as white on tests.

One of my friend is from Mexico but can trace all the way back through Spain without any native in him, his great grandparents were the first in Mexico but by pure coincidence never mixed (it wasn't out of racism because they were very poor immigrants to Mexico)
