No gangs in Philly?! There are gangs all over Philly. But just because they don't flag and throw up gang signs doesnt mean they're not a gang. Not every gang in the world is like a LA gang (except copycat crews). What about RAM Squad? Although most people believe they're gone they are very much still around. These were the same fools who would get in shoot outs with the FBI when their cars got confiscated. TNT, basically every projects has a gang to their name. Besides the smaller neighborhood gangs there are also plenty of Latin Kings and a few Bloods and Crip crews who are really low key. I knew of someone who got murdered by some crips who nobody took serious until then. There was a murder in the Penn Town projects where a young bull got viciously gunned down then the shooter dropped a red bandana over his face and fled.

would just join up with the rival gang (bloods in this case) whether they're official or unofficial and start

from what I see most squads in philly work off a web of associates.
Everybody got a core of like 4-8 dudes they gonna ride with no matter what.
Usually the core is family plus a couple dudes they grew up with.
then from that core, that one person may have dudes they roll with that they met in school,work or just happen to be from the same area.
so from that core and the outer web thats like a good 15-25 people that persons cool with.
since people in the core may have different webs that just means more people.
thats why sometimes squads seem like they got 50 heads then the next day they only got 12 then its 30.
thats why there aren't really any super huge gangs in philly.

Well according to the Homicide Map on NBC10.com the most murders occur in North Central and West Philly by the Southwest border. So Southwest and North Philly are the most dangerous parts of the city. But North Philly is so huge that not every neighborhood there is dangerous.

I heard North Philly has some Crip gangs, Rollin 60's are in West Philly and South Philly has some Blood gangs. What are the biggest Blood and Crip gangs right now in Philly? Are they home grown sets or are they "off brands" as they call in from Cali? Or have some real cali g's migrated to Philly?

'Most' gangs in Philly will go by the street they're on, for example 25th and Allegheny. There is Blood activity in Jersey, a lot of it. Camden, Newark, Trenton, and places like Willingboro that are relatively tame.

As a resident of West Philadelphia PA for over 30 years I can certify that the contents of this post are accurate.

Philadelphia has no real visible gangs! This may be surprising because "percentage" wise Philadelphia's homicide rate is greater that LA's. There are some youngsters who are trying to live in the past and call themselves gangsters, but the time of the Philadelphia gangs has passed.

There are small drug gangs however. They are small groups of individuals who have banded together to sell drugs and make money. And the Jamaican drug Posses are very active.

The drug gangs are most visible in the Latino section of North Philadelphia. There, drug dealers will stand in the street and shout things like, "Weed, weed!" They are well organized and they have runners, lookouts, and enforcers.

Those of gangbanging age in Philadelphia can go anywhere they wish without being asked, "Where are you from?" or "Why are you wearing those colors?" The only problem that they may have is if they happen to stray on a drug dealers corner and the dealer thinks that they are selling.

In the 60s and 70s Philadelphia had a severe gang problem. I have gotten first hand info about this from my brother who was a gang leader and my father who was a Police Officer. I was pretty young during this time but I remember that my brother always had a lot of friends around him. In some sections of the city every few blocks there was a different gang, and they were all very violent.

In my Father's district there was a gang called Carpenter Street. They would go to the funeral of those who they killed and shoot up the casket.

My brother used to tell me stories about his gang. They were called the Creek. Once at a party two guys from a gang called the Zip pulled out two 45s, each, and started blasting. When they ran out of ammo one of my brother's gang pulled out a shotgun and started shooting at them. He hit a lot of people and some were hurt by the buckshot.

One of the differences that I see in the old Philadelphia gangs was that even though they did a lot of shooting, they also did a lot of fighting. I am not sure if this is the case with the modern LA gangs. My brother was boxer and he had mad fighting skills. It was often that he would come home and show me swollen knuckles from someone who he had beat up.

Since this was before the time of the small time drug dealer, the glue that held these gangs together was territory and status. And since these gangs were not big money making institutions, they soon fell apart.

I live in Kennett i don't know if Ya'll been down to chester county but all i have heard about for gangs is Sur 13. I really haven't heard about no crips or bloods down here. But i might be mistaken. I don't go to oxford that often either but all i know is when i do go to oxford im careful!

Anyone saying you won't be tripped on in Philly is vastly ignorant of the streets and most likely are not even involved in the streets in any way.

There are gangs in Philly, although there are not any Gang Alliances like you have in LA and Chicago. Some gangs rep colors although it's not really catching on in Philly too much as colors just bring attention from the cops.

My cousin's friend was murdered, shot in the face three times when someone approached him and asked "Where you from?" in South Philly. Gangbangin is alive and active in Philadelphia. Another friend was murdered by some set because he didn't "salute" them when they threw their signs up.

I highly recommend you NOT to go to Philly looking for any gang, you'll most likely get shot. But if you really want to see for yourself, go to North Central.
Around the 20's on Cecil B Moore and that general area. You'll see gang activity, I wouldn't recommend asking too many questions though.
