Two off-duty police officers inside a South Baltimore strip club opened fire on two men trying to rob the bar this morning, killing one and wounding the other, police said.
Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman, said the incident occurred at Fantasies Nightclub in the 5500 block of Pennington Ave. about 2 a.m. when two men -- one armed with a shotgun, the other with a handgun -- walked into the bar.
Harris said one of the men fired a shot into the ceiling and announced a robbery. The two officers, who had just finished a 4 p.m. to midnight shift in the Southern District, took out their service weapons and shot the men.
The spokesman said one of the gunmen was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his hand and arm. Harris said no patrons were injured.
Names of the suspected gunmen and the police officers were not released this morning. Harris said the officers have been placed on routine administrative duties while the shooting is investigated.
