Well, Russians didnt descend from any ancient Asian tribes. They are Slavic peoples, many of which descended from the Caucus Mountain region. However, in the eastern portions of the former Soviet Empire,
there's a heavy Mongolian influence. Cant name all of the nations but
I think a few include Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan(sp?), and Kyrgyzstan. The area is referred to as Central or Middle Asia. There's also a strong Islamic
influence(which includes Chechnya as well). there. I work with a couple of
Ukranians and one Russian, nothing Asian about those dudes..
