I work with and for primarily black people, and trust me, I have a lot better things to do with my time (like CPR) than to worry about somebody's race is. I have encountered more racism from blacks than I have ever seen from white people. If I ask someone to do something within their job description and they don't want to do it, it's because they're black. I can't count the number of patients mothers who have yelled at us because their son (who is actively bleeding from a fresh gunshot wound or stabbing) is thirsty and "I bet you'd give him something if he was white!" The fact is this: yes, it was wrong to enslave a group of people. no, i can not even begin to imagine the horror of segregation and bigotry that people had to endure. and yes, I realize there are still a lot of white supremacists out there. But it is a situation perpetuated by both sides. It still baffles me how it's fine to have a movie like "white chicks" that openly makes fun of white people, but hell would break loose if there was the same movie made the other way around. The bottom line with the studio executives is MONEY. The studios spent a lot of money making this movie and they want to be sure they are going to get their money back and them some. I'm sure "Hitched" would have been just as good if not better if Will Smith's character had a black wife.

Hispanic basically means "from Spain." It's correct to refer to a Spaniard outside of his or her country as Hispanic, but to extend the definition in the way that the U.S. government has is to (unfairly) privilege the European heritage of a mixed peoples.

Latino is short for "Latinoamericano," so the term acknowledges both our indigenous-American and our Spanish ancestries. It's also how we've been referring to ourselves for ages. (Off the top of my head, I can recall lyrics from Ruben Blades' 1978 hit "Plastica," in which the Panamanian crooner calls for Latinos specificallyto rise up in unity against the ills of capitalism.)

Its use by members of our community comes off as an attempt to get people to see us as European immigrants rather than as a mixture of African, indigenous andEuropean. If we're seen as transplanted Spaniards, the logic goes that we'll be able to "blend in" more easily, to assimilate in the same manner as turn-of-the-century European migrants.

Latino, on the other hand, has a Spanish ring to it, which tends to work as a mark of difference in a nation where English is the de facto official language. In this way, there is almost a sense that the term Latino resists assimilation and it suggests our struggle to create our own national identity out of our history in the States. For these reasons, I refer to myself as Latino and urge you to do the same.

everyone is different. for some reason alot more latin girls have just come out and talked to me about hooking up or doing something then white girls. i've probably been with an equal number of each, mabye a couple more white. i've talked to some latin girls and have said they would never go black or mexican. others have said they love blacks. so i take it that it is strictly person to person. same with black and white girls. some have said they would never go the opposite, others have said they love the opposite. i really dont think you can put a generalization on what people like sexually because you never know whos gonna take to it or whats gonna happen when your drunk at a bar or party or something.
