In Peru the phenomenon of the gang becomes more well-known in the middle of years 90. The first studies revealed at that time that in the zones convulsed by the terrorism and the drug trafficking as it is the case of Huamanga, Ayacucho more than 4 000 thousand young people of 13 to 24 years were tie to gangs. Barras in Peru is born by year 1980 (she is one of but the old ones in South America after the Argentineans) a bar from soccer this composing by followers, supporters and fantaticos of a soccer equipment who not only are satisfied to going to the stage and sitting down, if not which they sing and they do one " fiesta" in the tribune to encourage to its equipment. By agno 1990 they are born " Bars bravas" in Peru that was the same bars of the years 80' s but active and much more violent. The only existing rivalry is against the bars of the other equipment. For the year 2000 I already arrive myself at the ends to shoot until killing the members of the other bars. The bars in Lima estan conformed by young people of different social classes, of all the sectors of the city, different races and with different professions or aspirations in the life. Only the common thing that they have is that all share the same feeling towards a same equipment of soccer, and unites them to this in the stage, we will say that it is like a gangster brotherhood. At present all the Peruvian bars have many gang members and drug dealers. At the moment it is in the capital cities of departments where the gangs continue proliferating. The phenomenon extends in Trujillo, Huancayo, Arequipa, Cusco, Chimbote, Chiclayo, Iquitos, Huamanga and Lima. Although neither the National Police nor the Public Ministry have exact registries on the number of these groupings knows that in Lima and Pebble the gangs happen of 300 armed groups that seed the terror every day. According to police information in year 2000; 390 gangs concerning Lima and Pebble with about 12.795 members existed. In the 2003 east number there was handicapped considerably registering 149 gangs and about 5.200 members that exert their dominion in the city. Whatever are not known are, but they add thousands. They appear at night. They send stones, they break moons, they shoot, they devastate yet what she crosses herself in the way. Sometimes by revenge but almost always to want to impose the dominion on other groups to which it is tried to demonstrate superiority, greatness, skill, ability and great power. They appear in groups. They are organized. They have its own codes of conduct. When somebody of the group is victim, they regroup and they march with knives, grenades, machetes, guns, pistols and revolvers in search of the aggressor. When they locate to the enemy the declaration military finishes in boisterous street fights or whole family shootings forcing to remain within its houses not to be attacked or victimadas. Some call "pirañas" but they know them to the majority like gangsters. It is defined to them as marginal drug dealers and classify themselves to them like children of the internal war, the poverty and the familiar disintegration that proliferates in the urban zones.

Peruvian gangs seem more like European type gangs than anything else, with the soccer hooligan connection. Definately not Mexican or US type gangs.
