I'll agree that 'Blood In' has a better script, though. But it might be the most horribly directed film, ever. No effort to make the film realistic, whatsoever.

Blood In had better oldies, though. Olmos pretty much stuck to the hard core, rock and roll stuff that convicts of all races were listening to at that time. Not really a lot of street, low rider oldies. Blood In had tons of them. In fact, that's the only reason I could tolerate watching that movie again.

America Me is on a much more serious note on what's going on. Blood in Blood out had me making fun of the movie dialogue to this day.

Both movies have the pro's and con's

many parts of "Blood In Blood out" was shot in my varrio,

some (not all) of the extras are my homeboys, some vatos are from Geraghty Loma, that's when we were close allies.

Yeah... American Me is more factual, but not entirely. maybe it has something to do with the EME misgiving for the movie and or maybe something else? Blood In Blood Out (Bound by Honor) dialogue and scenes are over the top at times, especially on the Director's Cut Edition DVD. Like I said before... My friends & bro. & I still make fun of some of those lines (dialogue) & scenes in that movie. It's funnier watching Blood In Blood Out, on the other hand... America Me is more serious. Both movies are about on par. Me... personally, favoring Blood In Blood Out to some extent. I guess, it'd depends on weither or not you want a laugh every now and then or want to watch a serious movie.

American Me, was way more real and Grimey.

Blood in Blood out was a copy of that IMO.

They seemed very similar though.

Blood in Blood out probably had a better story, it's just the acting was hideous.

American Me was supposed to be a biopic of EME member Rudy "Cheyenne" Cadena, but instead of having the Nortenos kill him, which is what really happened, he had the EME killing him at the end. This is supposedly what pissed EME off and prompted them to kill those people who were consultants to the film. There's also a rumor that they put a contract on Olmos himself, and that Olmos paid his way out of it. All we know is this, American Me did pretty well at the box office, and has gone down as one of the better gangster films of our time. Yet, Olmos has not done anything like it since. It's either that California prison gangs are different than the East Coast Italian Mafia that Martin Scorsese has made so many films about, or that Scorsese just has more street smarts than Olmos and knew what NOT to do...

If Blood In Blood Out beats American Me in any category, it's music. Blood In had the tight oldies, all the way through. American Me kept it kind of plain with just a few songs, mixing in rock and roll with just a couple of Chicano oldies.

American Me was like a biography. It looked more accurate. Like Siskel and Ebert, I give it two thumbs up.

Blood in Blood Out was much more watered down. I think they could have used actors who played the part better. Miklo looked like a chuntarro with tight khakis and t shirts. People that been in East Los for generations, know what I'm talking about. I give the movie one thumb up.

Actually Rollin,

Would you believe before they got they funny actor,

They wanted to have real cholo play the Miclo part,

They had already contract Big Lefty de La Geraghty Loma for that part.

He had just got out the of Y.T.S. and had "the look"

pero that "clavo" fucked him and got 'em busted before they could start shooting the movie.

The movie was OK but they should have used some real vatos or at least more believable actors as their main characters. Benjamim Bratt was the only one that came out authentic. Wasn't like American Me where they filmed the sh-it en Folsom.... 8) Bill Forsythe (JD) played the part well.

I like Danny Trejo though, even though he had just a few appearances in the movie.
