LAPD officers shot infront of police station, suspect escape
On Tuesday, June 26, 2013, two undercover Los Angeles police detectives suffered minor injuries in what the LAPD is calling an "ambush shooting" early Tuesday after 4:00 a.m. They were in their car, returning to the Wilshire station when an African-American, dressed in all Black, confronted the vehicle and fired into it, shattering several windows, and grazing the two cops.
The suspect fled on foot into the Mid-City / Mid-Town area of Los Angeles, triggering a manhunt that shut down the neighborhood and several businesses for 12 hours. The suspect fled the scene west on Venice and then south on north on Highland on St. Elmo Drive where after that he disappeared. By late Tuesday the gunman remained at large, after police had detained 10 individuals for questioning throughout the day, but not the shooter.
The gunman apparently sneaked up behind the two detectives as they were entering a gate at the Wilshire Division station around 4:30 a.m.
