The Wanderers (1979)
based on the 60's gangs in what looks seems to be based in chicago.
in my opinion, it was as exciting as watching the warriors if not more exciting.
it was based on gangs mostly divided by color.
however, nearing the end of the movie, most of these sets teamed/united up to take out the Irish Gang called the "Ducky Boyz", who ruled all of chicago in which all the other ethnic gangs couldn't stand against alone.
so these other gangs that were black, italian, and asian, joined up to take them out.
the white/italian gang was called the "wanderers", they were greasers and sported leather bomber jackerts with "the wanderers" embroidered on their backs
another white gang with one black member was called the "baldies". they all had shaved heads and wore leather jackets and looked like a motor cycle gang.
the asian gang i believe was called "the wong's" with greased up hair and leather jackets.
the black gang was called the "dell bombers" and they sported purple high school/letterman's football jackets with "del bombers' embroidered in the back.
these respective gangs settled any beef through tackle football to keep the peace.
--i dont want to give too much away but it's definitely worth the watch. definitely worth renting or even purchasing. again, the movie is called "The Wanderers" and it gives a somewhat accurate portrayal on how gangs/clubs were beefing back in the 60's.

Re: The Wanderers
Yeah yeah yeah, this movie as a fkn classic! Ducky Boys, Baldies, Del Bombers and the Wongs.... that rumble at the end was awesome.
You reckon it was a little under-done though?

Re: The Wanderers
I'm going to check it out. Would Blockbuster or Hollywood have it? Or is it hard to find?

been hearing tales about the Fordham Baldies for years. Were they the first SkinHead gang in the US? According to the Wanderers that just might be the case.
Watch for the Ducky Boys!

There are lots of big black Skinheads. Especially in the US. A lot of the original Skins were black, and Skins in general take large cues from Black-Immigrant-Working Class- English life. if you take a close look at most modern skinhead gangs and crews, you will se that most of them are multi-ethnic, and usually, more often than not, the black guys are in charge...
scary isnt it?

Baldies
Although the movie was set in 63 the film is suppose to reflect the 50s and ending of that era in New York.
The Wanderers as a gang existed although they were not a major player in the inter gang turf wars. The gtang was Italian.
The Ducky boys actually existed also and were largey based in a park and numbered upward of 400 or so youths. They also had a large girl gang. These youths were mainly white but not all and were mainly Irish.
The death of 'Turkey' in the movie was based on true events on the ducky turf around the tie of Richard Price's teenage years (the book author).
Richard Price revisted the same area with an updated story that became the Spike Lee movie - Clockers.
Both books are well worht a read - especially The Wanerers that is far less comic and much more brutal.
The fordham Baldies also existed and were a 'fighting gang', however they were NOT skinheads or bald. Their emblem was the bald eagle thus they got the name. They were an Italian gang
Among the gangs named while they show 'Perry' around the school such as the Mau Mau and a few others were all real gangs.
Not sure of the if the Del(l) Bombers existed in real life.
For more info on this era read this http://www.amazon.com/Vampires-Dragons- ... 0691074542
It covers the whole New York scene from the end of WW2 to the late 70s and is without doubt the best of its kind.
For those not into books try this site http://www.stonegreasers.com/greaser/ great info about Chicago and New York gangs with first hand details and photos.
Or if you are really lazy ask here and might be able to help.
p.s
Skinheads or Rudeboys as they should be known originate from Jamiaca and the dress code and music taste was absorbed by British Youth.
No true skinhead is a racist and these scuffy idiots you often see today do not know their own history.
The boots and braces are there to represent working class people (what they wore for work etc) but a true skinhead is always dressed well and clean cut.
Smash the Facist idiots and keep it real.
