Gary, Ind., again murder capital title

Postby triflin » January 8th, 2006, 8:28 am

After losing a title no one wants, Gary, Indiana is once again the "Murder Capital" of the United States for cities with populations over 100,000, reports the Post-Tribune.

If Hurricane Katrina hadn't hit New Orleans, Gary might have come in second for the title, with its 60 homocides. New Orleans had 221 murders, according to the Post-Tribune. "It's not something we like, but I'll take that over the hurricane," said Sgt. Thomas Branson, Gary Homicide Squad commander.

Gary, Ind murder capital
once again
After losing a title no one wants, Gary, Indiana is once again the "Murder Capital" of the United States for cities with populations over 100,000, reports the Post-Tribune.

If Hurricane Katrina hadn't hit New Orleans, Gary might have come in second for the title, with its 60 homocides. New Orleans had 221 murders, according to the Post-Tribune. "It's not something we like, but I'll take that over the hurricane," said Sgt. Thomas Branson, Gary Homicide Squad commander.

Here's the breakdown of murders per city in Lake County, per the Post-Tribune article.

Gary: 60,
East Chicago: 12,
Hammond: 11,
Hobart: 4,
Lake Station: 2;
Dyer: 2;
Crown Point: 1;
Highland: 1; and
Merrillville: 1.

Porter County had two murders in Valparaiso in 2005.

I'm kinda surprised with the East Chi & Hammond stats. East Chicago only got bout 30,000 people and 5 different People & Folk mobs I know of. But they seem like they be havin hella drama. I heard them 2-6's, IGz, & LKs be into it heavy out there. I know they got some GDs out that way too, they be rappin and shit.
Then Hammond bout twice as big as East Chicago. They got bout 85,000 people and bout 10-15 different mobs but less muders than East Chi.

I don't no to much about Hammond and just a lil about East Chicago. On Guthrie Street you got gds and Dark Side 2-6 that's the worst street in East Chicago by far. The lks from 143rd street and the igs from 149th and 139th street and the rowdy roxanna lks get down too. Then you can't forget about the cvls from wcc (West Calumet Complex)that's were some of the rappers are from and the rvls from over there by columbus dr.

Yeah its messed up but its been going on since the 70's every since the family gang and one ways. That's what happens when there is no economy and brothers aint got no education or trade to really get paid. Aint many options but to sell dope and rob other drug dealers. There aint that many steel jobs out there and they nor the casinos are going to hire felons.

The family gang was a street gang throughout nwi in the 70's. Oneway was a clique sort of like goon squad today with niggas from different mobs that came to the g from the chi. They use to have oneways out west in chicago I don't no if they're still around or not though.

That's why on studio to the ghetto will skrill said I been representing the five since gi called them oneways.

Naw you shouldn't be surprised ain't nothing really popping off in Hammond like that. Out of the three Hammond's got the bigger white population anyway and you know the police are more inclined to help whites then minorities.
