2 killed in separate overnight attacks

Two more killings are being investigated today, marking homicides No. 132 and 133 in Marion County.


Maj. Lloyd Crowe with the Indianapolis Police Department said officers called to an IUPUI-area apartment building in the 700 block of West 11th Street about 11:15 p.m. Friday found one of the victims dead from gunshot wounds.

Crowe said information about the victim was not available. According to witnesses questioned by investigators, several possible suspects were seen leaving the apartment building.

In the other case, officers were called to the 300 block of East 30th Street on the Near Northside just after 1 a.m. today.

Crowe said police found the victim in the street with stab wounds.

The victim was identified by the Marion County Coroner’s office as Howard Kyles, 29, of the 500 block of East Woodside Avenue.

Kyles was thought to have been stabbed in the chest during a fight with his girlfriend, according to the Coroner’s office.

The woman remained at large.
