KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri lovers' spat over a cell phone took a serious turn this morning. Blue Springs police say the woman stopped an argument with her boyfriend by swallowing the phone whole.

Police say they responded to a call at about 4:50 A-M from a man who said his girlfriend was having trouble breathing. When they got to the house, they found a 24-year-old woman with a cell phone lodged in her throat.

Police say the woman swallowed the phone instead of handing it over to her boyfriend.

The woman's identity has not been released, but police say she is at St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs. Detective Sergeant Steve Decker says he doesn't know what kind of phone it was, or whether it was on ring or vibrate.
