Two people were shot in broad daylight in front of a Family Dollar store on the Near Eastside just before 4 p.m. Saturday .
A man was killed and a woman was in critical condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital, police said. They did not release the victims’ identities.
Witnesses said the two people had been walking outside at the time of the shooting. They thought the victims came from an apartment building in the 2300 block of East Prospect Street, when police say two men approached them and started shooting.
Police were knocking on doors and talking to residents in the apartment building tonight.
Officers surrounded the apartment building and blocked off about a block and a half, including St. Paul Street and Churchman Road.
No one was in custody, and no weapons had been found.
