ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A former FBI informant was sentenced Friday to 10 years and one month in prison for scheming to ruin the head of the agency's Detroit office.

Myron Strong, 34, pleaded guilty in June to obstruction of justice, witness tampering, theft of government property, retaliating against a federal official and distribution of a controlled substance.

Strong and two co-defendents were accused in 2004 of trying to frame Willie T. Hulon, who headed the FBI's field office in Detroit, by claiming that he leaked sensitive law-enforcement information to their drug ring.

Hulon was cleared of wrongdoing and promoted in December to lead the agency's counterterrorism division.

Strong's plea included an admission that he recruited others to falsely incriminate Hulon in telephone calls that were being monitored by the FBI.

The scheme, which went on for 3 1/2 years during a grand jury investigation, netted Strong and his associates about $240,000, the Justice Department said in court documents.

The two co-defendents, Andre Boone and Robert K. Ready, agreed in August 2004 to testify against Strong in exchange for reduced sentences, prosecutors said.
