Police Search For Suspect In 8 Bank Robberies
Mar 14, 2007 1:20 pm US/Eastern

(WJZ) BALTIMORE Recent rash of bank robberies have Baltimore City Police on edge. Now, they are asking for your help in locating a suspect.

Mike Hellgren reports police say they have seen a 600 percent increase in bank robberies across Baltimore City this year. There have been 19 robberies compared to 3 last year.

Police believe one man is responsible for robbing eight banks across Baltimore City and police want to catch him before he strikes again.

Detective Donny Moses tells WJZ's Hellgren, "His m.o. is simply to walk in, pose as a customer and when he approaches the teller, hands them a demand note. He has not been violent in any way as of this point."

Most of the banks the suspect have hit are near downtown. "We know it's the same suspect. As you know, all banks have the cameras inside and we've gotten his photo every time. We're having problems identifying who the suspect is and we're hoping that somebody who sees his picture will give us a call and help us out, " says Moses.

Police have a time line of when the robberies started. The first robbery began on Feb. 16 at a Bank of America on Light Street and the last robbery occurred Tuesday at Wachovia Bank on Fort Avenue.

Of the 19 robberies this year, 15 of them had a supect demand note. Real weapons have been used in three of the cases, and a fake weapon was used in one.

If you have any information, officials ask you to call the city's robbery unit at 410-366-6341.
