Baltimore County police are seeking four men involved in last week's shooting of a 24-year-old who is now paralyzed from the neck down.

Herve Massaba, 24, of the Pikesville area of the county, was shot July 5 in the first block of Valdivia Court in Windsor Mill. Massaba, who lives with his parents and emigrated from Africa to Baltimore a year ago to attend college, is studying to become an electrical engineer, police said. He attends college during the day and works at night to pay for school.

Detectives say that on July 5, around 11:30 p.m., Massaba was walking home from work in the 3700 block of Rolling Road after getting off a bus. While he was walking, four people began chasing him. Massaba was shot once in the upper torso while running away, police said.

He was taken to Northwest Hospital and later taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remains in poor condition, police said. The injury will leave Massaba paralyzed from the neck down, police said.

Investigators said they do not know of a motive for the shooting, and they do not have a description of the shooters.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP. Those who call Metro Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
