A teacher's aide raped one of her charges - a 4-year-old boy - inside a Queens day care center in a repulsive case of child abuse, officials said yesterday.
Khemwatie Bedessie, 37, repeatedly abused the preschooler at Veda's Learning Center in South Ozone Park, authorities charged.
The abuse stopped only a few days ago, when the child developed a rash and tried to describe to his mother what had happened to him, police sources said.
Parents with children from the center were stunned by the allegations yesterday. "I'm shaking right now," said Sheetal Marken, tightly holding his 3 1/2-year-old son, Shivam.
The victim was allegedly abused on at least three occasions since January inside the 128th St. facility. The abuse occurred early in the morning when few people were around, sources said.
In the most shocking instance, Bedessie allegedly took him into the bathroom and tried to have sex with him, a law enforcement source said. "I just hope it's not true," said father Bebka Rampersaad, 42, whose 3-year-old son, Arvin, attends the center.
Police sources said Bedessie confessed yesterday to Queens sex abuse squad investigators and made a videotaped statement to prosecutors. A native of Guyana, Bedessie had worked for four years at the day care center, officials said.
She faces one count of first-degree rape and six counts of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
"The child, I'm afraid, will never recover from the emotional trauma inflicted upon him by an individual into whose care he was entrusted by his parents," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
