BELGRADE -- The Interior Ministry confirmed that it has arrested Aleksandar “Kristijan” Golubović on the suspicion that he organized a drug trafficking group.
The Belgrade police action, in cooperation with the Security Information Agency (BIA) and several prosecutions, ended with the arrests of Milanka Golubović (60), Uroš Vuković (20), Mirsad Fujaljkić (28), Safet Ibrović (38) and one minor.
They are accused of illegally producing and selling drugs and the illegal possession of weapons and the sale of weapons and explosives.
They are suspected of running a ring that distributed drugs from Novi Pazar to Belgrade.
A package of heroin and paracetamol would be sent to Belgrade from Novi Pazar, to the home of Milanka Golubović, who would then break the drugs down into smaller packages and her son Aleksandar would then give the drugs to someone to sell—Ferat Skenderovski—who was arrested on January 13 with eight grams of heroin.
Golubović, Vuković and, Fujaljkić were arrested in a bust while exchanging the drugs in front of a Belgrade church.
Milanka Golubović and the minor were arrested in a rented apartment where 100 grams of heroin was found, along with 100 grams of paracetamol, a measuring scale, several mobile phones, and a gun.
The suspects have been remanded into a 48-hour period of custody.
Golubović was known as one of the main mafia men in Serbia during the 1990s, with links to the late godfather Željko “Arkan” Ražnatović and many others. He is also known for his 2002 escape from a Greek prison and from being featured in a popular 1996 documentary on the Serbian underworld.
