The netherlands is the european cannabis country

Amsterdam - The Netherlands has an estimated 40,000 cannabis growers. This makes the Netherlands the list leader within Europe. The production is approximately a 2 billion euro profit.

This is what is found from the figures of the police and the Task Force taking hold of organized cannabis. According to police, the marijuana cultivation has long lost its innocence. Not harmless home growers, but large criminal organizations are behind the numerous cannabis plantations. 'They do not shun violence, corruption and assassinations,' according to the police.

Apart from the criminal aspect, the police also fights hemp farming because there are dangerous situations regularly. Electricity is often tapped illegally for these cultivation places, which causes fire hazard. This was then the direct reason for network controller Stedin to use an odor map to tackle cannabis cultivation.

Each year, around 5000 farms are dismantled, program manager Erik de Borst of the Task Force knew when the odor map was introduced in Rotterdam. He at least hopes that more reports are now done, since people now have a tool to recognize cultivation places. Most are dissolved after a report of local residents.
