Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
I was looking at Derek Jeter's stats and he has a good chance of getting 3,500 hits before he retiresand will surpass 3,000 in 2011 within the first month. can he do it.

Don't think so. He will have to play at the same level until he's at least 42 years old. First of all, I don't think he'll play that long. Secondly, I think his skills will start to deteriorate as he gets older.

Pete Rose did it and Derek Jeter keeps himself in good shape.SHYSTER wrote:Don't think so. He will have to play at the same level until he's at least 42 years old. First of all, I don't think he'll play that long. Secondly, I think his skills will start to deteriorate as he gets older.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
2 years ago I predicted that Jeter would get 3000 by April 30, 2011. Right now he has 2,951 hits, so he will definitely reach this mile stone in June at the latest. He is averaging close to 600 hits per 3 seasons, and he ha a good chance making it to 3,500. This would occur in the 2014 season in July, if his careers lasts that long. He has a chance to become the 5th greatest hitter ever passing Tris Speaker and positioned right behind Stan Musial.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
On May 15, 2017, Derek Jeter will get 4,000 hits if he stays healthy and injury free. He has at least one 200 hit season left and he will be hiting between 150 and 175 hit per season from 2013 - 2016. He will be 42 when he breaks 4,000 hits. He will still need another 256 hits to catch Pete Rose.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
Jeter ends 2012 with 216 hits, the second mosts hits of his career. He had 219 back in 1999. How many more seasons like this does he have left in him? Already at 3,300 hits. He is #10 on the all time list passing Willie Mays. Next season he will probably make it into the #6 position passing Carl Yastrzemski.

He had a good season, but catching Pete Rose, I don't know. In today's game, often it's the organization precludes players from completing records. He may be able to do it, but will it be in a Yankee uniform. Teams today, are always looking for new and younger talent to build from. He has already had problems getting the Yankees to re-sign him a couple of years ago for the amount of money he wanted. I think that it will inevitably come down to dollars and if he is willing to take a substantial cut in pay. I'm not sure that he would be willing to go to another team. If so, he may be able to do it.

I think he will definitely get 4000 hits. He will need at least 4 more season to hit 700 more times. Now passing Pete Rose will take another season and a half. And he should do it as a Yankee so long as he is still producing.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
Derek had 216 hits in the 2012 season. that is the second most hits in one season in his entire career, 2nd to the 219 he hit in 1999. Already at 3,304 hits, he needs at least 4 more seasons, averaging 175 hits person season. Can he do it, he is 38 now.
He has averaged 192 hits for the last 4 seasons (2009 - 2012) and does not look to be slowing down.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
Derek Jeter announced that he will retire after the 2014 season. If he has a season like he did in 2012, he will end his career with 3,500, making him #6 all time. He currently has 3316 If he does have a great season and gets between 160 - 190 hits and dont see him really retiring. 2 more decent seasons will put him in the number #4 position behind Hank Aaron.

Re: Can Derek Jeter get 4,000 hits
He didnt quite get 3500 hits, but he ended up with 3461, just 39 hits short of 3,500.
