Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer co-sponsor Anti Gang Bill

Unread post by alexalonso » February 24th, 2004, 1:58 am

They are really trying to crack down on gang on a Federal level. The gang enhancement penalties that California made popular, may be going Nation-wide.

Also recruiting into a gang can become a crime, and if you are convicted of 2 gang related offenses, you can get 30 years or life.

Oh yea, I wrote a post about what's going on the federal level. California is leading the charge with Bratton waiving the flag.

Gang members not keeping up with the current trends will get caught up in the drag net. A quick re-cap.

California is trying to make it where RICO laws are applied to gang members, which only means your prison sentences are about to double and triple.

Gang members are soon to be named Urban Terrorist. Once the war on terrorism dies down in Iraq, then it will shift to California.

Homeland secuirty: Immigration/Customs Enforcement (ICE) has already started kicking illegal alien gang members out the country permanently. Cannot petition to re-enter the U.S. They already kicked out 60,000 people last year (serious offenders/Gang members).

Bratton is in Washington D.C. regularly. Notice how many federal officers where at the N. Gardens raid.

Yesterday LAPD announced it's changing or changed it's pursuit tactics. The last the guy that found that out in the most recent chase got blasted on.

It's getting serious out there. IT'S NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL ANYMORE.

What I personally dislike about this approach is they themselves only provide one way out: a prison cell. That means large amounts of people fed into the prison system. What happens when they have locked up so many people that a ridiculous amount of straight people's taxes are going to prisons? Will then finally positive change come?

Wouldn't it just be easier to right now build the highway out of the ghetto into the middle class? Has Government gotten so caught up, obsessed, with passing tougher and tougher laws and taking away freedoms they've just become a warehouse industry for people of low income?
