Only people I can remember wearing cutoff khakis past the knees and and long socks is Mexicans. Everybody else had some funky looking butt hugger shorts...and maybe some long socks.

Way back in the olden days though 1800's and earlier there were people who wore stocking like socks and big shorts but it wasn't anything like today's look.

Mexican G's around the way started rockin' cut-off khakis with the long socks sometime in the mid 70's...thats just my guess.
But check out some of the background characters in boulevard nights you'll see em' rockin cut-off's with house shoes.
Also in Blood in blood out, when miklo's on parole in that slum apartment building with popeye you'll see some dudes in the background during that party scene rockin' long socks with cut off khakis circa 1979.

looks just as gay today as it did in the 80's. I think it was done by the esses cuz they are technically soccer socks, and who in cali plays soccer? anyone? Just the mexicans, and border brothers for the most part. I think they just started the trend with the cholos.

You "think" it started with cholos. So in other words it's just a wild guess. That's a dumb as if I were to say, "long socks started with some suburban girl scouts in santa ana. "

actaully you might be right, maybe cholos are just imitating girl scouts. And they are soccer socks man. Regular socks for regular men don't go up to your damn knees. Only socks made for soccer did that shi-. And I didn;t say I thought the trend started with cholos, I said soccer playing border brothers. The cholos just picked it up and ran with it.

I remember clicking a link in one of the forum topics that had to do with race fights in prison. In that article it mentioned that Mexicans wear high socks because exposing bare legs in the prison system was a sign of homosexuality. I'm guessing that after they got out of prison many decided to continue rocking high socks.

It wasn't a sign of homosexuality but it did turn homosexuals on so to avoid gay comments, most Mexicans covered up as much as possible. Therefore after getting out of prison, most were too used to the style the decided to contiune to wear it. As for the socks being soccer socks or girl scout socks, THEY ARE NOT EITHER. I go out to the swap meet or stores and buy socks that are called High Crew socks and they aren't at exaggerated lengths either but if put together with baggy shorts or cut-offs (which I wear) they appear to be very long because they meet and surpass the length of the leg.

*You're right, and everyone has worn them. I have a picture of my aunt's ex-husband (rip), from 1977, in Covington, Louisiana, where he was wearing a tank top, cut off denims, and long tube socks, with a basketball in his hand.

you're only mad cuz it's true and it hurts. Like I said, anyone that wants to try can pull my card, but a fact can't be disputed homie. You won't find one little south sider in OC that can prove me wrong, and anyone in Theo Lacy in 2002 would know it. And any of them in the Main, the Farm, or Lacy can verify my status the last time in 2004. I didn;t have the keys, but everyone knew about me cuz that kind of thing spreads quick. Hell, I can even send you a copy of my jail paperwork from classification. Brown hair, green eyes, race: Black. Had to classify me as a black inmate so that I went to the right cells on the way to court and shi-. suck ass, and quit tryin to earn striped net bangin on a whiteboy with more heart than you got.

WHEN U GET LOCKED UP IN COUNTY OR THE PEN, U HAVE TO ROLL WITH A "CAR" THAT DEPENDS ON YOUR RACE. THE BLACK CAR IS FOR THE BLACKS, THE SURENO CAR FOR THE MEXICANS FROM THE SOUTHERN CALI, THE WHITE CAR FOR THE WHITES, ASIAN/ISLANDER CAR FOR THE ASIAN/ISLANDERS. U MAY ALSO HEAR PEOPLE CALLING IT "CARD" BUT "CAR" IS THE ORIGINAL SAYING.
