Advertising to black people.

Unread post by Helms » April 14th, 2005, 12:58 pm

I'm not sure if it's different in the US, but I've noticed something kind of funny up here on TV. I've specifically noticed this with Mcdonald's ads. I've seen them do two versions of the same commercial. I'll see a Mcdonalds commercial with a wholesome white family etc. and then I flip to BET or and they will have the SAME commercial, only the family is black and they'll have hip-hop beats or something in the background. Do they think this is necessary? Will white people not buy food from there if the commercial isn't all white? Will black people not eat there if there's white folks on the commercial? It just seems stupid to me.

Anyways, I just was thinking of this today after someone emailed me this comic:

se11 yeah, the comic itself is pretty funny,
maybe they were aiming at younger easier manipulated children that could put pressure on mommy and daddy to take them out for some chicken nuggets.
if an enterprise can put and idea in your head and leave you humming along to the beat,,, then that is where the impact comes from, not from getting you to think that 50cent eats BigMac's.

Let me just clarify that those comics are NOT by Mcdonalds. It's a daily strip called the boondocks, it's just making fun of the recent MickyD's ads. I've seen the cheesburger ad they mention. It's funny because obviously it was made by some marketing directors that have no idea what "I'd hit it" means.

Here's another question, in LA and other areas with large hispanic communities, does Mcdonalds run all Latino ads? Just curious.

Typical Corporations trying to Capitalise on Minorities. By using the slang, The Talk of Black People. Personally I dont find nothing against them, It is there company and there money on there own ads. It is up to oneself to discearn from Silly corporate tricks.

Same goes for ciggeretts, They too use short more appealing Words to name there ciggeretts Such as "Kool". To attract the Younger smokers. They make it Sound as witty as They can.

Not only does Mcdonalds Use the Slang of a particular race to draw customers for profit, they also Vent the smell of there Food into surrounding areas, Which is why when you drive near a Mcdonalds 9/10 times you will get a large scent of there French Fries in the air, Even when your across the blocc. Why is it You cant smell the French Fries when Your actually in the resturaunt, Yet you can When your driving near it??? Think about it.

Anyway I can go on and on With Silly corporate tricks so Im going to chill now cuz its friday and im getting some pussy tonight. Ill be back though.

mcdonalds is known to spend over a billon or so dollars on advertising a year, so it's even more of there benefit if they make comericals and ads that appear to kids, whites, blacks, and hispanics.

Very true, it is artificial and composed of a variety of different meats. A large Australian chicken processor describes a nugget as a mouthful of batter, water, soybean (sometimes passing as chicken), skin, fat and - entirely dependent on how much you've paid - chicken meat particles. Your not even getting real Deal Chicken Or Beef. Which is one reason I dont fucc with there shyt. Make my own Eat My own.

I've noticed that myself. I'm not really sure how to feel about it yet, because we cant really blame corporate america for these kinds of advertising bits because we (black people) are often the ones in these commercials selling ourselves short. I think sometimes it's cool to see advertising that fits "my" reality, but sometimes i think it's a joke. But then again, how would we act if we weren't on ANY commercials??? The only thing that i can say to people in these positions to do these commercials is this: think outside the pocket for a minute and ask yourself, does this help or does this promote something more negative.

Haha, move on with that. If I walk up to a white guy and ask him about the Boondocks comic strip what are the chances he knows what I'm talking about? Some just don't know, hell if my mom didn't hand me the comic strip and ask me to read it I wouldn't either. If ignorance is not knowing then there is no argument

Now for the real deal, some of these ads I see make eyes roll in the back of my head. I can complain to my folks about it and that's it. Lack of taste but we asked for it.

Anyway, consider them ads 2fors.
1) To keep organizations like the NAACP and etc off their asses.
2) If it helps to push more product & brand recognition while pushing #1 it pays for itself.
