Protection of Fire Crews

This is the forum for those who believe that there are other options to gangs and violence and hope to see young people make better choices about their future. Where does change begin?

Protection of Fire Crews

Unread post by NW10 » May 23rd, 2005, 12:44 pm

Do Fire Rescue Crews need protection?

Growing numbers of Fire Brigades throughout the UK need CCTV and CSO support when attending fires.

Young teens are increasingly making hoax calls for firemen and then ambushing them with bricks, rocks and fireworks.

One type of 'hobby' for these kids is to remove the floorboards from in front of the doors in derelict houses and setting the houses on fire. When the firemen arrive and go in the houses to put the fire out they fall through the hidden gap (where the floorboards were) and into the cellar. Dangerous stuff.

Kids in gangs of up to 50 in alot of Northern towns seem to enjoy luring firemen to hoax calls and attacking them. As it stands there is no real sentence for attacking a firemen like there is for attacking cops.

Anywhere else got similar problems and solutions?

Last week in North Belfast a group of kids set a fire just so they could attack the fire crews when they arrived. Little punks even video taped it on their cellphones.

It seems to be some kind of weird UK thing. Last time I was in London, the firefighters were on strike.....so what did people do? Light fires and call in thousands of hoax calls. Boredom is a dangerous thing.
