I have heard back east in New York many Puerto Ricans constantly harass or rob illegal immigrant Mexicans looking for work. I also lived in Puerto Rico for a year (2000) and heard many derragatory comments from Puerto Ricans regarding Mexicans. There is no secret that these 2 groups are not the best of friends and it espeically shows in boxing when Puerto Rican and Mexican fighters have created the most fierce rivalry in the sport.
Although there are not a lot of Puerto Ricans in Los Angeles (there are a few in the Hawthorne/Inglewood area and the city of Corona), the few that I have talked to (along with some Dominicans) mentioned being harassed, assaulted or discriminated by Mexicans. I was also curious to see if many Puerto Ricans have been targeted in these Mexican vs Black race wars (reason being that many Puerto Ricans are African mixed with Taino Indiginious blood and Spanish).
My personal observation I have made between the 2 groups is that Puerto Ricans tend to side with Blacks and Mexicans with the Whites when it comes to creating allies.
