Eight dead in fight between inmates at Mexican border prison
MEXICO CITY Across the border from El Paso today, at least eight inmates were killed and about 10 others injured in a fight between gang members inside a municipal prison in the rough border city of Ciudad Juarez.
Local media said the fight involved rival factions of the "Aztecas" gang. Reports say the fight began because of internal leadership disputes or for control of the drug trade.
In December, six inmates were stabbed or beaten to death at the same prison.
City officials said today's fight started early this morning and was controlled by police using tear gas.
Officials gave no immediate information on the condition of the wounded, who included nine prisoners and one guard.
