SAGINAW, Mich. -- A 3-year-old was shot and wounded, apparently by a gang member, following her sister's funeral, witnesses said.

Marquisha Hutson was treated for minor injuries and released from St. Mary's of Michigan Hospital, a spokeswoman said.

A 16-year-old was arrested after Thursday's shooting. But police said they likely would have to release the teen because of uncooperative witnesses and a lack of evidence, The Saginaw News reported Friday on its Web site.

"Nobody's talking," detective Sgt. Mark Lively said.

Marquisha was standing in a yard with at least two dozen other children when she was shot in the arm. She was not the intended target, Lively said.

Witnesses said mourners at the funeral of Marquisha's 3-month-old sister, Makeya, made gang signs on the wrong side of town, prompting rival gang members to stalk the wake. A man in a Chrysler 300 fired up to 10 shots into a crowd of people who had driven from a church to the home of the infant, who died accidentally last week.

"If it did ignite from that, how weak-minded are our young folk?" the Rev. John Rincher, who officiated at the service for Markeya, told The Saginaw News. "You talk about stupidity, you talk about cowardly -- this is what you call this."
