Indian Red Lopez

Postby BIG DUSTY LOCO » March 5th, 2004, 9:59 am

Made the news, his family found him and have reunited. Also, they inducted him into the Hall of Fame. He was a welterweight fighter in the 60's/70's that was all royalty. He is an American Indian by blood, and his little brother was "Little Red" Lopez, who was another champion boxer.

Congrats to Indian Red and his family...

I seen an article about 3-4 weeks ago in the sgv-tribune by Morales in the sports section about Red being missing and all that and bamm! they find him now, thats cool. Were the family looking for him through the media or was it this vato Morales that was helping and found him? Who found him anyway?

He was living in a homeless shelter in Ft. Worth Texas. His family started to look for him, after him not contacting them for 12 years or so. There was an article from a magazine, or I think it was the LA times.

yeah you right about mando ramos...i met him at a AA meeting in east los angeles. he was a speaker there. i got to know him pretty well. he use to give me a ride back to program i was in. he was starting a boxing program in wilmington or san pedro, to help keep them kids off the streets. his program is still going. its called BAAAD (boxing against alcohol and drugs)...he making a positive change in many kids lives out there. one day mando brought a video of all his title fights and his hardest fights. we watched them and when the last fight came up it was mando ramos and SUGAR ramos...mando said that was his hardest professional fight...and dammmmmmm, they was locking horns THE WHOLE FIGHT!!!. i havnt see him since 92 or 93 but if anyone wants to see what his program is t6hen just type in mando ramos or BAAAD and hit search. you should be able to find it very easy...

thats cool SR he used to be home boys with my pops since they are both from wilmas. he told me one time they were on lst and anaheim and mando ramos and one of the other homeboys got in a fight and he wound up breaking his hand and had to back out of a fight. but yea mando is coo i met him a few times he autographed some gloves for me. i watched some of his tapes from back in the day.. that was way before my time. but i was tripping out because my dad would say all the homies from wilmas would go to the fights and they had a special whistle they would all do. and he said the olympic auditorium was classic for rumbles in the crowd after the fights.

Salvador Sanchez died in a car crash a few years later after his second Lopez fight, not in a plane or right after.
